Chapter 38: Jerome vs Nature.

POV: Jerome

I looked around myself; Giant pillars of green surrounded me and let little light through. I could smell the damp earth around me and heard the sounds of beasts taller than houses.

In my hands I held my old iron sword, it felt uncomfortable in my grip due to my lack of recent training; I could tell that it wouldn't cut much anyway. That sword hadn't been made to pass through hell and back and so its edge had long since been taken away, using it as a club would be a better idea than trying to cut with it.

I looked at my Master for a moment before speaking, "Master... I don't think we'll be able to get through this floor; Those giant monsters would tear me apart and wouldn't feel threatened by you."

Masters' eyes narrowed for a moment and gave me a judgmental look, clearly, I had done something wrong. But then, I felt something flow past me and onto my sword; A new layer of something had just been added to it. My Master flicked its tail over at one of the ginormous grass blades around us as if telling me to try and cut it.

I tried it of course, and while I didn't expect anything to happen, my sword didn't even feel any resistance as it cut into the grass with ease. I looked at my sword in shock for a few moments before realizing what had just happened, Master improved my sword!

I thanked Master as much as I could before continuing on my way, after all, Master wanted me to progress.

I stared at the corpse of the insect I had just killed; The insect that was at the very least two times bigger than a house. I could almost not believe what I had just done, It had all been effortless as my sword cut through the monster's vital organs without any problems.

I just had to thank my Master somehow! Master managed to make my sword rival legendary artifacts and didn't see it as anything more than normal. I need to repay Master somehow; I don't know when, but I'll do it.

I was incredibly numb. I repeated swing after swing without thought and advanced without a goal. It had been an entire week since I had arrived on this floor, and I had to be honest about the fact that I missed the previous rooms; There it would simply be myself alone and sometimes Master, but now I had no time to even think with all of the insects swarming me.

I had recently discovered an ant nest and had been found by said ants... they apparently aren't happy to see anything intrude on their territory. I had spent the last three days swinging again and again without hope of the flow of enemies to stop, I was entirely running on Mana now and was probably only functioning still because of adrenaline.

Hopefully, Master won't be disappointed with how long it'll take to get out of here...
