The Married Life Of Immortals

Chapter 110: A Different World

Bane left the building, and took in a deep breath of air, but then coughed at the overwhelming floral smell of fresh dead demons. "Ugh, this place is nasty," he muttered, looking around.

The building had reeked of body odor, but coming out to the sight of a large number of freshly dead demons wasn't much better. Bane found that the fresher the body was, the stronger the smell was. Nothing about this place made any sense to him, but after a month of being here, he had more or less gotten used to it.

Pointing himself in the direction of the cube, Bane was about to start walking, but tipped his head to the side, avoiding a serrated sword that missed him by a hair. Rubbing his neck, Bane turned it to see a 10 foot tall yellow demon with a single arm but six legs like a crab glaring at him.

"You should watch where you swing that thing," Bane growled, then frowned at the demon, looking around. "Having a bad day? Did you kill all these demons?"

"Who are you?! What are you doing in the city?!" The demon demanded, raising his blade at Bane, and Bane looked down at the blade, then back up at the demon, giving him a thoughtful look.

"I just lost my slave... but he only has one arm?" Bane mused to himself, thumbing his chin while looking at the ground. "Probably wouldn't be very good at collecting hearts, but maybe I could use him like a horse?"

"You dare ignore me! Can you not see all the demons I have killed?!" The demon demanded, and Bane looked up at the demon.

"How do you feel about becoming my ride?" Bane asked, completely ignoring the demon's question.

"A ride?! I will make you regret those words!" The demon roared, and began slashing at Bane, but all his blade cut was air.

Bane weaved with minimal effort, but also focused on the hearts of the dead demons, causing all the bodies to suddenly burst with black flames. The demon, surprised by this, scurried back, but nothing caught fire, nor were the flames even warm coming off the bodies close to it. As the bodies burned away, red, yellow, and green demon hearts floated up cradled in wisps of black fire that levitated to Bane.

"You see, I have been killing and consuming your kind since I came to this world. I thought it was pretty weird at first that you ate each other, but I figured it out," Bane said, pulling out his storage cube, and all the floating heart crystals were sucked inside, save for two red ones that he grabbed from the flame wisps and popped them into his mouth. "You guys are all made out of demonic energy! Something I have been getting a very good grip on over the last month!"

Bane suddenly burst out in evil and maniacal laughter that made the confused demon flinch despite himself. Just what was this demon?

"You see this, Onyx?! Not even you can contain this powa!" Bane roared, and then he looked at the demon with one eye that was a radiant gold and the other that was darker than the blackest night.

At the same time, a black sphere appeared from Bane's body, and then formed into a carbon copy of Bane, and slapped him across the face.

The slap wasn't hard, but the fact that he had slapped himself made Bane give his head a shake. "You! Did you come here to take this away now that I am bragging about it? What are you, the fun police?"

Onyx shook his head and rolled his eyes, making Bane nod and give a thumbs up. "Nice. I always wondered if my eye rolls had the proper effect. I look clearly unimpressed," Bane nodded, and Onyx slapped his hand over his copy of Bane's face.

The demon was very confused. He had just watched this demon eat two demon hearts, and then split in two after avoiding all of his attacks. The creature had also burned all the demons he had killed until there was not even ash left with black flames that had no heat. Now it looked like he was about to get in an argument with himself.

"I was the one that let you use the demonic energy, idiot. Did you really think that you pulled one over on me?" Onyx asked, and Bane shrugged.

"A man can dream. Anyways, what do you want? We were clearly having an epic battle, and one arm Sally over there clearly has the upper hand. Now shoo so I can concentrate! I don't want to lose this super important fight!" Bane said, waving Onyx off, and Onyx slapped him again, but this one spun Bane around.

"Can you stop being an idiot for an entire minute, and just listen to me?" Onyx growled. "No wonder that elf gets so pissed off at you."

Bane rubbed his cheek, but then grinned and nodded. "Yes, the growl comes out with just the right amount of irritation and annoyance! Nice!"

Onyx sighed. "You are an idiot, and I have no idea how you managed to make that elf fall in love with you, but she really isn't any better than you. Now, the reason you are in this world is to earn favor with Gustave, not to kill him. You will need the demon's help in the future, and Gustave is on a path to become the next Demon Emperor."

Bane gave himself an appalled look, but then paused. "Can you try the look? I want to see if I nail it or not."

Onyx slapped Bane, but this time, he returned the strike, and soon the two of them were a flurry of hands. A crowd was gathering, but neither of them paid any attention as they continued to assault each other as the crowd grew.
