Chapter 60: Grand Construction

Chapter 60: Grand Construction

March 18th, year 129.

Seven days had passed since the first group of recruits arrived.

In those seven days, Bay Village and its surroundings had undergone significant changes.

Matthew had gathered nearly half the workforce to build a livestock farm in just two days.

All domestic animals were placed in the farm for centralized care.

Standing by Silvermoon River, a forge that used water power for production had been set up and was now operational.

After a few days of adjustments, the forge was already producing agricultural tools and repairing weapons and equipment.

Besides these two buildings…

A barracks, outposts, a lumber camp in the Dark Forest, a timber processing plant across the river, a flax cloth production site, and a herbal processing factory, along with more than ten other facilities, were under rapid construction.

Morning.

Dark Forest.

Matthew watched from afar as trees were felled and then cut into sections.

With the help of people and carts, they were transported along the gravel roads laid by the kobolds to the small dock by the river.

Thick logs floated downstream and were pulled ashore at their destination.

After further selection and processing by the carpenters, the logs were sawed into wooden planks of specific sizes.

These planks still needed to undergo drying, shaping, and strengthening processes that would take about a week before they could be used.

Naturally, tree selection was done under the guidance of Village Chief Field, who ensured only trees of sufficient size were chosen.

In place of the felled trees, new saplings were planted.

Matthew was well aware that compared to the value created by these logs, the true treasure of the Dark Forest lay in its endless supply of magical herbs and materials from magical creatures.

His goal was first to build more houses to accommodate the growing population.

At the same time, he aimed to unify the workforce, gaining valuable experience for future development.

Matthew didn’t consider himself some exceptional genius; everything required learning, accumulation, and progress.

Lastly, Matthew sought revenge!

Those trolls had stolen his spoils and posed a serious threat—he couldn’t swallow that insult!

The Dark Forest was bustling with activity.

Bay Village was equally busy.

Outside, the tall wooden walls were also packed with laborers.

Under the direction of a senior architect…

They mixed dirt with dried reeds and wood ash, adding in special alchemical minerals and magical materials, all of which were then packed into the wooden walls.

The data display informed Matthew that, although the process seemed ordinary, the results were excellent.

The reinforced and raised wooden walls now had greater sturdiness and some magical resistance, able to withstand low-level elemental spells.

Along the village roads…

Drainage ditches were being dug.

The sunlight-averse kobolds preferred to work in these trenches.

The dug-out soil was not wasted either, as it was used to further reinforce and raise the village’s walls.

Some of the old houses had already been torn down and replaced with neatly arranged two-story wooden homes.

Of course, the sewer systems for these areas had already been dug by the kobolds in advance.

Many people working alongside the kobolds had gone from initial curiosity to familiarity, marveling at the lord’s magical powers.

The most notable constructions were along the four main streets leading into the village.

At the most prominent and closest points to the gates, new camps and outposts were established, manned by well-trained soldiers.

The laborers frequently saw the soldiers marching in formation.

After the outposts, there was a large construction site.

A multi-functional adventure hall was being built here.

"In the future, adventurers coming to Bay Village can check and accept quests here."

"They can seek quest information, recruit suitable teammates, purchase weapons and equipment, restock supplies, and even buy magical items and potions."

As Leon said this, his tone was filled with excitement, as if he could already see the bustling activity of the adventure hall in the future.

Rebecca, who had just returned from her teacher, nodded thoughtfully. Her eyes gleamed with curiosity as she asked:

"I heard the lord brought in a high-level warrior?"

Recalling a stubborn old figure, Leon chuckled wryly and pointed to the barracks ahead:

"That’s right, the lord spent over 1000 gold coins to hire Mr. Arnold, who is now our warrior instructor."

Rebecca didn’t notice her brother’s odd expression, and her eyes sparkled as she rubbed her hands together, like she had found some hidden treasure:

"A high-level warrior gets 1000 gold coins?"

Halfway through nodding, Leon suddenly caught on and stared at his sister with a curious expression, asking cautiously:

"You’re not thinking…?"

"Cough, cough… No, nothing like that… I’m going to play with Yaya."

Making up an excuse, Rebecca dashed off, leaving Leon to stroke his chin helplessly as he watched her disappear:

"She’s already reached level 2 druid after just a few days?"

Leaving Leon behind to ponder, Rebecca wandered around Bay Village, scratching her head nervously:

"Will Master like it here? Hard to say…"

Next to the adventure hall under construction, a weapons shop had already opened, and the sounds of hammering metal could be heard faintly from within.

Across from the weapons shop, a flag embroidered with the word "Wine" fluttered in the wind. The tavern, though only one story tall, had already begun serving adventurers.

Business seemed good, as the current quest board was located in the tavern.

Nearby, a tailor shop was about to open, a three-story inn had been built, and shops selling grain, general goods, and adventure supplies were ready to operate.

Though many buildings were still under construction, Ralph had pushed for several establishments to begin operating as soon as possible.

The adventurers arriving in the village were pleasantly surprised to find that, while Bay Village was small, it had everything they needed, and prices were much lower than expected.

Adventurers who had feared being overcharged relaxed, discussing the mysterious lord of Bay Village.

Many adventurers had already begun gathering information, selecting teammates, finding local guides, and learning about the trolls in the Dark Forest.

Judging by their enthusiasm, they couldn’t wait to spring into action.

As the sun dipped low, casting a soft golden light across the plains, Bay Village finally quieted down after a long day of hard work.

To everyone’s delight, pre-prepared meals and daily wages left those who chose to stay feeling satisfied.

As Bay Village entered a new phase of rapid development, Matthew, who had invested significant funds and time, breathed a long sigh of relief.

"Building... is no easy task."
