Road Survival, I Have a Hint System!

Chapter 30: Version Update

Headlights!

Turbocharged Engine!

Seeing the two blueprints, Zhang Tuohai's eyes lit up.

He had finally found the headlights.

Before this, because he didn't have headlights, he could only rest at night.

He didn't even dare to drive too fast when being attacked by wild beasts.

Without headlights, and with the nights in this world being pitch-black, if he drove off the road, he might never find his way back.

But now that he had headlights, this problem was solved.

If he had these headlights earlier, he could have easily outrun the black bear with his speed.

The only downside was that using the headlights would increase fuel consumption by 10%.

In this world where gasoline was extremely precious, that was a significant disadvantage.

This was precisely why the first player to obtain the blueprint chose not to equip it.

However, for Zhang Tuohai, this wasn't a problem.

He had already installed lightweight tires, which saved 30% of fuel consumption, more than enough to offset the loss from using the headlights.

As for the turbocharged engine, that was even more impressive.

Instant acceleration—a true lifesaving tool.

If he encountered an enemy he couldn't defeat, he could simply hit the gas and speed away, doubling his speed, leaving all his enemies far behind.

The sudden burst of speed would also greatly increase the impact force.

If Zhang Tuohai had had this earlier, he might have been able to kill the black bear in one hit.

Most importantly, he had all the materials needed to build these two devices, so he could make them right away.

Zhang Tuohai opened the crafting interface and made both items.

Once the headlights and turbocharged engine were built, they integrated directly into the vehicle.

Several new buttons appeared on the dashboard: one for the turbocharger and one for the headlight adjustment.

Zhang Tuohai inspected the lights. The options were quite comprehensive: high beam, low beam, fog lights, and even an electronic display at the rear of the car, though it wasn’t very useful.

Zhang Tuohai felt his car was becoming more and more like a real vehicle.

The only thing missing was the most important item—air conditioning, which was still nowhere to be found, making Zhang Tuohai scratch his head.

Without air conditioning, it would be very hard to survive when the disaster day came.

He might even die from the heat.

"I must find a way to get air conditioning and a cooling system!" Zhang Tuohai resolved.

For breakfast, he mixed the leftover barbecue from yesterday with dehydrated vegetables and stir-fried them, serving them over two packs of instant noodles. The result was an extreme delicacy.

Too lazy to wash a bowl, Zhang Tuohai ate straight from the pot. It had to be said, food was closely tied to the environment.

In a normal city, instant noodles would be considered junk food.

But in a life-or-death apocalypse, they were a rare treat.

Looking at the yellow sand outside, Zhang Tuohai even felt that this bowl of noodles was better than KFC.

After finishing, Zhang Tuohai checked the time. It was now 5:30 in the morning, and in half an hour, the sun would rise.

He could then start his new day of exploration.

Zhang Tuohai checked his gear and prepared for the day’s journey.

But just then, a light screen suddenly popped up.

[Player death count exceeds threshold. Game version update starting.]

A loading bar appeared below the message.

[0%, 5%, 10%...]

"The game is actually updating?" Zhang Tuohai was surprised.

Before he could figure out what was happening, the progress bar reached 100%.

[Survival on the Highway Game 2.0 Version Update Notes]

[Due to most players not acquiring sufficient resources, a new Rally Mode is now available.]

[Players can choose whether or not to participate. If they choose to join, they will be guided to a dedicated track.]

[On the track, the number of supply crates will be reduced by threefold, but the quality of the supplies will be doubled.]

[Supply drops will randomly appear on the track, with the lowest quality being blue.]

[Three sets of vehicle air conditioning blueprints will be randomly offered on the track.]

[Note 1: Numerous fierce beasts will appear in the rally zone. Players lacking strength should choose wisely.]

[Note 2: The rally zone will shrink periodically. Only those who survive until the end will receive the final reward.]

[Note 3: The rally will last for 12 hours.]

"Vehicle air conditioning!"

Zhang Tuohai couldn’t tear his eyes away from those four words.

That item was crucial for his survival in the coming days.

No matter how comfortable things seemed now, without air conditioning, he could very well die from the heat in a few days.

He didn’t want to end up in that situation.

Despite all his efforts, he hadn’t even seen a single air conditioning blueprint.

Now, there was a chance to get one, and he wasn’t going to miss it.

As for the danger, he wasn’t too concerned.

With his modified car, his Remington shotgun, and the hint system guiding him, Zhang Tuohai didn’t think he was worse off than anyone else.

There was no way he would miss out on one of those air conditioning blueprints.

Zhang Tuohai was determined to participate.

Meanwhile, the regional chat started buzzing with discussions.

"Whoa, vehicle air conditioning! Finally! Without AC, I’m going to die from the heat. I’m definitely joining this race."

"Double the quality of supply crates? Awesome! No more dry bread for me. I bet there’ll be fried chicken in a blue crate. I’ve had enough of bad luck."

"Aren’t you worried about the fierce beasts in the rally zone? What if we run into one?"

"As if gathering supplies on the highway wasn’t dangerous already. I’m joining the rally. Win, and I’ll eat and drink well; lose, and I’ll die quickly, no more suffering."

A lot of people agreed with that sentiment.

However, Zhang Tuohai smelled a business opportunity.

"Maybe I can take this chance to sell some more hunting spears. After all, they’re no threat to me."

Thinking it over, Zhang Tuohai quickly made 50 hunting spears and threw them onto the trade channel.

"50 hunting spears for trade—improve your chances of survival. Price: 50 units of level 1 resources. Will accept gasoline, blueprints, or other valuable items."

"Whoa, man! That price hike is insane! Yesterday it was 30 units of resources!"

Some complained about the cost.

"You can choose not to buy. Or you can skip the rally, and maybe you won’t run into any beasts," Zhang Tuohai replied.

"But 50 units of resources is too expensive! How about 40 units? I’ll owe you a favor."

Zhang Tuohai didn’t even bother replying.

No one knew each other, and they might never meet. What was the point of a favor?

The fact that he was offering weapons for sale at all was already a huge favor.

Yet these people still weren’t satisfied, leaving him speechless.
