Rising Shards

Iris yawned as she let her hair down. Maia watched intently, enjoying the sight of her bestie undoing her hair buns, showing off a style that only Maia got to see.

“I am so ready for bed.” Iris said.

“It’s like 2pm.” Maia said.

“Miss naps everywhere does not get to call me out on being sleepy during the day.” Iris said. She stopped between the two’s beds. “Shall we?”

“I…uh, y-yeah.” Maia said. She hated how nervous she got when talking about some B.F.S. time, but Iris never made fun of her too much for it. 

Iris grabbed her own blanket and hopped onto Maia’s bed, drooping the sheet over the two before hugging Maia. 

“I’m gonna fall asleep so fast.” Iris said.

Maia hugged Iris back, loving how easily the two took to naps together as part of their routine. Iris always muttered something about how Maia was like her big plushie, which was dorky but always made Maia blush. 

Maia usually fell asleep before Iris did, but today she was taking a bit longer. She wanted to enjoy the content feeling of Iris so close, with nothing to worry about. No fights with exes, no drama. At the moment at least, she could completely relax.

“Purring.” Iris said sleepily.

It could be incredibly embarrassing when Maia let out any full cat-like behaviors from being a Kanibari. It was pretty rare for her, but her defenses were down with Iris. Purring was a big one, Maia still denied it every time it happened.

“N-no I’m not,” Maia said, the vibrations in her voice giving away her lie.
