High School of the Dead: Zombie World with a Gacha

[Rei's POV]

What is this giddy feeling around me? I worked together with Brand to save these girls, we coordinated perfectly...

'W-Wait, Rei... now is not the time?!'

I shook my head repeatedly, getting rid of the bubbly feeling in my stomach and fixing my gaze on the two ladies that were still shivering after the earlier experience, trying to not look at the naked corpses around us.

Brand came back from a room with two bedsheets and gave them to the girls whose clothes were tattered. They were being abused, the younger girl of the two was even bruised in several places. I can't begin to think how horrible it must have been.

If I and the girls hadn't been in this strong and compassionate group, perhaps... this would have been our fate.

"What are you two called?" He crossed his arm with the gun in his hand in a threatening manner that did nothing to calm the girls' exasperation.

"Can't you be a little kinder, Brand?" I frowned at his cold voice, I like him... a lot... but I think that sometimes he's unnecessarily cold and uncaring. As if he has no human empathy.

Some other times, he makes me doubt myself... like, he still followed along with my tantrum to save these girls, even if he declined... I wouldn't be able to say anything.

"M-My name is Mikoto... Sasaki Mikoto, 2nd year..." The younger girl said, her hair was long and black, she wore a tattered school uniform different from ours, and her most important parts were exposed, I felt so bad for what she had to go through.

My gaze then directed towards the older woman, she looked around the same age as Shizuka-san and Kyoko-san... perhaps a little older. Her hair was long and auburn, she wore tattered office clothes and had bruises on her face, from being punched.

When I looked at the two of them, I thought we let those bastards off too easily by just killing them.

"Makai Arisa... *sob* t-thanks for saving us" She introduced herself and bowed towards Brand and me, covering herself with the bedsheets.

I was about to speak when Brand asked them something that placed me on the spot, more so... them.

"Did any of them ejaculate inside you?" He asked with crossed arms.

!!!

"T-That... *sob*" The first one to start sobbing was the younger girl of the two, as for the adult female... she was looking at Brand with shivering eyes as if she didn't want to answer this question.

"You should know why I am asking this question, it is for your own good" He declared.

"..."

"..."

The two of them nodded, crying.

"Kami-sama..." I gasped and looked at the three corpses in disgust. Brand sighed with a contemplating gaze; his visage looking at the sobbing girls, not knowing what to do. I know why he asked them... this world... in this world being pregnant is equivalent to being a heavy load.

It seemed like they hadn't thought about this in the rush of the moment because when he asked that question, they paled as if the consequences dawned on them.

"It doesn't matter... the two of you can either stay here or come with us... I will leave you in a safe place. The world outside is a mess; you can later decide what you're going to do, moreover... it is not like it is confirmed that you're pregnant" Brand scratched his head and exhaled a tired breath, "Stay with them Rei, I will look around to see if there is anything of interest".

He left me with the girls who by now seemed to have entered a nigh catatonic state. I don't know what to do or say to them in this situation, I can only think of how horrible I'd feel if it had been me.

"The two of you have to calm down... it wasn't your fault... we will think about what to do later, right now is not the moment... we have to leave this building and walk back to our post" I held both of their shoulders and pulled them into a hug.

That seemed to be what they needed the most at the moment.

"C-Can he be trusted?" The adult, Arisa-san, asked me. I guess now she's going to have a hard time trusting men.

"He can... he is the leader of a very capable group... you can trust us. Arisa-san, Mikoto-san".

The younger Mikoto-san sobbed so harshly, as if her life had ended this moment while Arisa-san was suppressing her own thoughts and emotions like the adult she is... but she was failing to do so.

"Do the two of you know each other?" I asked them but they shook their heads in denial.

"No... I'm a student from Seinai High School".

"I-I'm a therapist... I was trying to escape when those men captured me, when I came here last night, Mikoto-chan was already here".

"My small group managed to run from school but... my group was killed by those men... only I was left alive, I was the only girl" Mikoto-san hugged herself, perhaps wondering if that group of students would have been anything different considering she was the only girl. I think it would have been different.

"Those bastards..." I felt odd and frustrated feeling so much hate for three corpses... they're already dead, what can I even do? I didn't think in my life I'd harbour killing intent.

"We have to get out of here, there are more of them! like ten more, they just went to get some food from the supermarket nearby" Arisa-san said, a little scared.

"Ah?" I lifted up my eyebrows, making a connection.

"So this is their group" Brand returned to the living room empty-handed, "you don't need to worry, we already killed all of those. Let's go, we can't remain here".

"T-These are the only clothes we have... those men... they started abusing us yesterday" they tried as much as they could to cover their bodies with the bedsheets but they were awkward. They didn't want to show anything to Brand... and he also didn't seem to care that much.

"You are free to take a shower... we're in the gas station a few blocks up the street and will be staying there for the night. If you want you can stay here and we will pick you up tomorrow... it should be safe here anyway" He stated, waving his hands and prompting them to make a decision.

It was almost instant.

"N-No, we don't want to be here!" They yelled, looking at the corpses that would surely remain in their nightmares from now on.

"You can come with us, no need to stay here..." I pulled the two of them up while Brand was already making his way out of the apartment, that bastard... he's usually quite sugary with women, why is he acting so cold to them?!

...

While making our way back through the streets, I pulled him to the side harshly to whisper in his ears.

"Why are you being so cold to them?! d-do you look them down because they were abused?" I frowned and asked this question that was bugging me.

He groaned and hushed me away.

"What do you even know? for a woman that was abused... the last thing she wants is a flirty touchy-feely man... the best I can do is treat them coldly and keep my distance... you girls are going to have to deal with them because their nights won't be peaceful, they will be filled with nightmares".

"..." I bit my lips and released my new boyfriend's wrist... I misunderstood him again.

The path ahead of us was one of silence until we finally caught a glimpse of the Gas Station, but something was not right.

"You can't be fucking real..." Brand said, perking my gaze up from the ground to look at the station.

There was another vehicle in there aside from ours. A black big vehicle that resembled a tank. There were several suspicious men standing by it, analysing the gas station, I couldn't see any of the girls or the boys. Is that the police? why aren't they showing themselves, we're lucky now!

I was about to yell at Brand to run there and talk to them but It was at that moment that I saw two of those monkey bombs appear in Brand's hands, he used his magic and his skin had paled several shades in colour.

I don't know what's going on.

"Fucking Blackwatch... the two of you... go back to the apartment, quickly!"

He said towards Arisa-san and Mikoto-san who were just as confused. The moment he threw the bombs in the direction of the tank, I saw... with my very eyes how those men started pointing their guns at the Gas Station and opening fire!

*PA!*

*PA!*

*PA!*

*PA!*

"NOOOOO!!!" I yelled in disbelief.

Chaos ensued so quickly... Arisa-san and Mikoto-san who saw everything immediately heeded and began running back towards the apartment while I stayed still, as if the noise had been erased out of this world, I saw Brand take out two guns and begin shooting.

Explosions... bullet impacts in the asphalt near us.

"Wake the fuck up, Rei!"

Brand yelled at me and I somehow recovered myself, filled with nothing but raw adrenaline.

This world won't give us even a minute to rest. All I can do is take my gun and move forward to protect my people... there is no other choice.
