Awakened Earth!!

chapter 94: leaving the Marvel universe part 3

Fury leaned back, crossing his arms. "Humanity will eventually cause its own extinction if left to its own devices. Humans are the only species in the entire multiverse capable of intentionally causing their own extinction. Sure, some species do it accidentally, but humans are fully aware of what they’re doing—and they keep doing it. It’s just a matter of time."

He fixed me with a serious look. "Without an external threat, humanity’s self-destructive nature would likely end them. What I’m doing isn’t just about making Earth safer; it’s about ensuring humanity survives much longer. Power comes with a greater benefit that has yet to reveal itself."

I shrugged. "I’m sure it’s the higher-ups who pushed this, not you. They think Sages are just evolved humans and want to use them as super soldiers. They’re planning to replace humanity with a more super human. But honestly, this will be their own undoing, not mine."

Nick Fury nodded. "I just had to ask. I need it to look like I’m doing something, though I agree with you. It’s already been a big help to S.H.I.E.L.D. And with all the threats we face, the Avengers alone aren’t enough to take on an entire army. Having an army of Sages and mutants would be beneficial when the next alien invasion comes."

"It seems we’re in agreement then," I said. "Like I mentioned, there are plenty of heroes who can handle those who want to go full supervillain and misuse their powers. Besides, most of those people would probably die instead of evolving. The ones who go mad with power? They’re usually the ones who don’t survive the process."

Fury raised an eyebrow. "You mean the bad ones would gain strength but not be able to control it?"

"Exactly. The ones who go mad with power die during the process," I explained. "I’m sure you’re already aware, but you have to remain conscious through agonizing pain. If you pass out, you die. Only someone with an incredibly strong will can endure it—and anyone with a will that strong wouldn’t be the type to let power control them. The fountain extracts the life force from anyone who fails and dies, returning it to the Earth, replenishing the magical energy used. The conversion ratio is massive—even the small life force of a human can power the evolution of ten others."

I sighed, sensing something shifting. "Well, it looks like it’s time. I’d love to stay and chat, but it seems the cosmic entity that’s been throwing me around the multiverse is sending me somewhere else."

Suddenly, a light similar to the Bifrost appeared, and I vanished from outside the universe, slipping into the void. I tried entering Sophie’s dimension, but it didn’t work. Alex came out, entering the Bifrost-like visual effect and crossing the void.

"You totally left me behind," Alex said, exasperated.

I sighed. "Didn’t you just enter Sophie’s dimension and come back here?"

She nodded. "Yeah, but still... Oh, and you also became a goddess. I guess that’s what triggered this cosmic entity to send us through the multiverse."

We suddenly stopped. "Oh, where is this?" I used my clairvoyance to check on this Earth. "It’s... DC?"

Before I could process it, I was pulled out of that universe and hurled into another. "What the... where am I now? Is time stopped?"

Using my clairvoyance, I realized where we were. "Oh, this is the Saga of Tanya the Evil universe. But I don’t feel like I’m about to get yeeted out of here. I wonder if it’s because time has stopped. Such a powerful being wouldn’t be affected by a time stop."

I shrugged, using clairvoyance to locate Tanya. I sent this information over to Sophie. After all, using spatial magic to detect my current coordinates and the target’s location through clairvoyance is a basic trick. Sophie could probably manage it within the range of a solar system, but I can use clairvoyance magic across the entire universe with no limit on range.

"Oh, looks like it’s the famous scene with Being X and the dead body after Tanya destroyed the whole enemy planes," I remarked, as Sophie teleported me over. It was well outside the range of my perception, which only stretches a couple of kilometers. Although I can use clairvoyance to view the location, it’s not the same as having it within my direct perception range. I’m not skilled at long-range teleportation. If I tried hard enough, I could manage, but it would take several minutes to cover a long distance. Honestly, teleporting outside the solar system would be nearly impossible for me."Oh, looks like it’s the famous scene with Being X and the dead body after Tanya destroyed the whole enemy planes," I remarked, as Sophie teleported me over. After being teleported over, I casually walked up to Tanya, glancing at the dead body currently possessed by Being X. My eyes glowed, and I laughed. "Oh, you're trying to claim to be a god and force this little girl to believe in you?" I said. "Forcing people to believe in you is counterintuitive. They have free will, which means even if they don't disagree with you, they'll resent the choice because they weren’t allowed to make it themselves."

I examined Tanya with glowing eyes. "It looks like you're just a clone of the Christian God, so you’re not even a true deity. Why you chose to torment this person is beyond me."

Tanya’s soul, though stronger than usual for a human, wasn’t anything extraordinary. Across the multiverse, there are countless beings with souls on her level. In fact, on Earth alone, there are quite a few with similarly powerful souls.
