Will I Always Be Weak?

Chapter 13. All Alone

"I promise"

Those words reminded me of my final moments on earth, a few minutes before my dad murdered me in cold blood. But I am not my father; I won't kill this little girl.

"Wahh," the girl just cried and cried.

She looked at my hand for a moment with fear in her eyes; her soul began to lighten, but it still verged on the brink of despair once again. She began to hope, and I realized how easy it could be to destroy that small, slimmer of hope left inside her. This poor girl...

"Don't kill me!" She yells.

I got hit with a sense of pain as this cute girl really thought I was going to kill her! She was gorgeous; she had dirty blonde hair that was only down to her neck. Her face was adorable and very clear; the only problem was that it was so red from her tears. How could I even think of killing her?

"I won't harm you! I swear," I say to her

"R-really?" She whispered a reply

"Yes, I'm not a monster," I said. I may look like a demon, well, I am... but I am not a child murdered.

"Where are your parents?" I asked.

"I've-I've never met my parents," she said. She looked down to avert her gaze from mine.

"oh, well, is there anyone that can take care of you, a guardian of some sort?" I stutter out, surprised by her previous answer.

"No, there's no one." She said it sadly.

"Ok, that's fine. Would you mind telling me why you are out in the forest by yourself?"

"I was running from the evil men," she said. I could tell she was beginning to get less scared, her soul lightening.

"Are these men still chasing you?"

"No...they stopped when I got to the forest," she said while nodding her head sideways. I assume they thought she was as good as dead when she entered the forest, and I can understand why. This forest is filled with dangerous beasts and monsters.

"Are you hurt at all?" I began to question the girl more about her health. I wasn't sure what I should do, but leaving her on her own was not an option.

"No, I'm just tired, and my legs feel weak." She said that with tears in her eyes. When I saw those tears brewing, images of my little sister flooded my mind. Like I always did with my sister, I reached out to her.

"Then do you want to stay with me?" I say while pulling her into my arms and picking her off the ground. She recoiled in fear and hesitated for a moment. She thought about her options and decided on her answer.

"Yes... Yes, please." She looked up and stared into my eyes; those eyes were majestic, and they were begging to be saved. She gripped my arms tighter. My heart began to race; it's been so long since I've felt this sensation. The last time was with Angie when she said she loved me on that one fateful day.

"What's your name?" I ask soothingly.

"My name? It's Tayla! She said it with a slight smile.

"What a beautiful name," I said joyfully. This entire time I've been keeping my presence away from her, and I've willed my blessing of despair to the minimum. Her soul was becoming brighter and brighter. The world also began to brighten as the sun began to rise. I've noticed that demons don't need food and sleep like humans do. As long as I kill something, I seem to be fine.

"I'm so tired," she said as her eyes started to flutter. My soul began to fill with pride as she began to daze off to sleep. The sun got brighter and brighter, and her hair that was covering her ears parted. The ears that I saw were longer than mine! Tayla was an elf... those ears were amazing, and now I understand why this lonely child looked so cute; elf genetics must be amazing! While I admired her, she fell forward, laying her head on my chest, and she started breathing heavier. Her eyes were fully closed and her arms drooped, Tayla was asleep. A single tear fell from her eye and rolled down her cheek. I reached my hand forward, and with my knuckle, I wiped the tear away.

"I'll protect you,"

"Tayla..."
