Villain Is Bodyguard of Heroine’s Poisonous Stepmother

Chapter 81: Ye Chen Backs Down

Exerting great effort, Ye Chen finally managed to shake off Li Ting and rushed to the Yongqiang Group.

“Where is Xiao Qingxue?” he inquired of Xiao Li, Xiao Qingxue’s assistant, as he couldn’t find her.

“Weren’t you arrested? How did you get released?” Xiao Li was surprised to see Ye Chen.

Ye Chen’s face turned grim. Being arrested was a blot on his reputation, and he might have punched Xiao Li if she weren’t Xiao Qingxue’s assistant.

“Tell me, where is Xiao Qingxue?” Ye Chen demanded coldly.

“Humph, why should I tell you the president’s whereabouts? You’re no longer her bodyguard,” Xiao Li retorted, clearly irritated by Ye Chen’s commanding tone.

“Tell me.” Ye Chen’s eyes, filled with killing intent, startled Xiao Li, who gazed back at him in terror and alarm.

Ye Chen, known as the King of Mercenaries, had killed countless on the battlefield. His lethal aura was more than the average person could handle, and Xiao Li was fortunate not to have been paralyzed by fear.

“I… I don’t know where the president is. She left the company after receiving a call from Zhao Yingxuan,” Xiao Li stammered.

Hearing that Xiao Qingxue had left after a call from Zhao Yingxuan, Ye Chen’s expression shifted and he swiftly turned to leave.

“That guy is terrifying,” Xiao Li thought, reflecting on Ye Chen’s formidable fighting skills. She felt relieved he hadn’t attacked her, considering he had even dared to hospitalize the Luo family’s young master and would certainly not hesitate to strike her.

After leaving the Yongqiang Group, Ye Chen quickly made his way to Zhao Yingxuan’s villa, instinctively feeling that Xiao Qingxue was there. He was unsure what might be happening to Xiao Qingxue at Zhao Yingxuan’s place but was certain it was nothing he wanted to see.

“Driver, speed up,” he pressed.

“This car can’t fly, so there’s only so fast we can go,” the driver responded evenly.

The roads of Magic City were broad, but they were jammed with traffic. Even the most adept driver would find themselves caught in the gridlock.

It took over half an hour, but Ye Chen finally reached Zhao Yingxuan’s villa. The security at the villa complex was no match for him, they didn’t even notice his entry.

“That’s Xiao Qingxue’s car,” he observed, seeing her vehicle in the villa’s courtyard.

“Are you planning to trespass?” a familiar voice stopped Ye Chen, causing him to turn with a fiery glare.

The voice belonged to Chen Luo.

“So, you just got out and already planning a crime to go back in? Troublemakers like you should be locked up for longer,” Chen Luo sneered.

“Where is Xiao Qingxue?” Ye Chen demanded coldly. “You can’t claim she’s not here, I recognize her car.”

“Yes, she’s here, but you can’t enter. If you want to see her, wait for her to come out,” Chen Luo blocked Ye Chen’s way.

“Have you done anything to her?” Ye Chen’s gaze bore into Chen Luo.

“Do you really want to know?” Chen Luo’s question left Ye Chen in silence. Sometimes, it’s better not to know certain answers, especially if they might not be what one wishes to hear.

“Just leave if you’re done here. You’re not welcome, and I don’t want you here annoying me, or I might not be able to hold back from giving you a beating,” Chen Luo’s threatening tone enraged Ye Chen.

“A blood debt will be paid with blood,” Ye Chen retorted angrily, then turned and left.

His exit appeared nonchalant, but in truth, he had backed down. If he hadn’t been scared, he wouldn’t have left. Previously, nothing scared Ye Chen, but now he feared confronting Chen Luo, aware that he was outmatched.

“Blood for blood, but you’ll need the opportunity for that,” Chen Luo remarked as he watched Ye Chen’s departing figure.

He held back from attacking, unsure he could kill Ye Chen. Despite his superiority in many aspects, Ye Chen possessed a protagonist’s aura and might not be so easily defeated.

Failing to kill Ye Chen could bring more trouble upon himself. Chen Luo also had to consider the forces backing Ye Chen. He would strike only when he was certain of finishing off Ye Chen in one blow.

“What if I use all my current wealth to boost my own power? Could I then kill Ye Chen?” Chen Luo mused.

With over thirty billion at his disposal, he wondered if using this wealth in exchange for power could transform him into a sort of superman. Chen Luo, compared to an average person, already seemed somewhat superhuman.

After Ye Chen left the villa area, he immediately contacted Xiao Yongqiang on his phone.

“Ye Chen, I’ve heard you’ve been released?”

Xiao Yongqiang had been working on securing Ye Chen’s release. It could be said that Ye Chen’s freedom was partly thanks to Xiao Yongqiang’s efforts.

“Yes, Uncle Xiao, there’s something important I need to discuss with you. Qingxue is currently at Chen Luo’s place,” Ye Chen called Xiao Yongqiang to share this news, hoping to learn more about Xiao Qingxue’s situation through him. He had wanted to call Xiao Qingxue, but she had blocked his number.

“Qingxue is at Chen Luo’s?” Xiao Yongqiang, initially seated, stood up agitatedly, coughing violently. His health had been worsening lately, it seemed his days were numbered.

“I tried to get Qingxue out, but Chen Luo blocked me. I’m worried about her, Uncle Xiao. Is there any way you could check on her?” Ye Chen expressed his deep concern for Xiao Qingxue.

Considering Chen Luo’s character, what might he do to her? The man had already dishonored Xiao Yongqiang, what would stop him from harming Xiao Qingxue?

The more Ye Chen thought, the more agitated he became. He was torn. He wanted to understand the nature of Chen Luo and Xiao Qingxue’s relationship, yet he dreaded knowing the truth.

“I’ll head over immediately,” Xiao Yongqiang replied hastily, hanging up and instructing his driver to take him to Zhao Yingxuan’s villa.

“Chen Luo, you better not have harmed my daughter. Otherwise, I’ll make sure you go down with me,” Xiao Yongqiang thought menacingly.

Shortly thereafter, Xiao Yongqiang arrived. Without wasting time on small talk with Ye Chen, he headed straight for the gate of Zhao Yingxuan’s villa.

“Xiao Yongqiang has arrived as well, things are heating up,” Chen Luo remarked, watching Xiao Yongqiang and Ye Chen at the villa’s entrance from the window.

“Should we leave them outside?” Zhao Yingxuan suggested, wrapping her arms around Chen Luo’s arm.

“If they dare to barge in, we’ll call the police and have them arrested,” Chen Luo said.

“It’s not a serious offense. What’s the use of arresting them? Chun Mei, go open the door and bring Xiao Yongqiang in,” Chen Luo instructed.

Chun Mei and Xia Lan had already returned.

Obedient to Chen Luo’s orders, Chun Mei ushered Xiao Yongqiang inside, leaving Ye Chen outside, facing the closed door. Chen Luo had only invited Xiao Yongqiang, purposefully excluding Ye Chen. Ye Chen stood outside, his face contorted in anger.

Was Chen Luo intentionally humiliating him by keeping him out? Ye Chen certainly thought so, and his resentment towards Chen Luo intensified. But for Chen Luo, increasing Ye Chen’s hatred was of little concern, as he had already maximized their animosity.

Once inside, Xiao Yongqiang cut straight to the chase, asking coldly, “Where’s my daughter?”

“Mr. Xiao, there’s no need for such hostility. Please sit down and let’s talk,” Chen Luo responded, assuming the role of a host.

Xiao Yongqiang’s expression contorted involuntarily at Chen Luo’s authoritative stance. Even though the villa was in Zhao Yingxuan’s name, Xiao Yongqiang had been the one to purchase it. The sight of the couple was a bitter pill for him to swallow.
