Umbra Frontier Online – A Casual Playthrough of the Umbra Witch

Chapter 64: Nightmare on Sacrecy

Ever since the Sacrecy Region was released, many players have been venturing into the darkness once again for the thrill of what unexpected horrors may await them.

Some ventured solo, some ventured in a party.

But regardless of who is which, these players all seek one thing while having fun in the new region.

The location of the next city, where the Liberation Quest will be at.

Following the footsteps of a certain party, its members, Sindri, a petite High Elf with flexible equipment, and Andre, a flamboyant Lizardman with a dapper sense of fashion, are currently in combat with a group of Aerial-type monsters known as Aerodytes.

They are quick, agile and highly evasive, shaped like a hummingbird in real life which also makes it difficult for ranged attackers to hit them due to their small body frame.

But despite that, Sindri and Andre shot those pesky birds down with ease.

With her skills with the bow and her accuracy, Sindri fired multiple arrows at once, hitting four out of every five shots she fired. Whereas Andre's approach can be quite unique in a way, conjuring a set of translucent swords at his disposal which he then launched at the Aerodytes like a homing missile. Killing more of them than his friend, Sindri, could.

"Ho ho ho~ Looks like I've won again, sweetheart." Andre chuckled in victory, attaining a greater kill count of monsters than Sindri.

"Oh shut it, Andre. I'll win the next one for sure." Sindri pouted.

"Is that so? Well you might want to be more serious then, because that was my third win in a row." Andre boasted smugly, as he patted Sindri's head in a cocky manner.

Sindri held back the urge to hit him, thinking about how she will beat him in their next friendly contest.

They moved on. Travelling further into the darkness with their Lamp Bugs flying around them.

But, it did not take long before the two of them encountered a peculiar problem, in the form of a huge stampede that came rushing right at them.

"""SSSSKKKKKKRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~!!!"""

"What the—"

"Look out!"

Andre grabbed Sindri and jumped out of the way of the stampede that just ran past them, as the both of them proceed to hug a nearby tree for cover while the unbelievable menace that is Bane and his many clones marched on, eliminating anything that stood in their path. Monsters or players alike, as unbeknownst to Sindri and Andre, several parties of players have already been destroyed by the Banes.

"Holy ****! How many Centibanes are there?" Sindri cursed at the absurd sight while she and Andre were peeking around the tree they're hugging to look at the stampede.

"I don't know. But... this is definitely not normal. Did someone trigger a world event or something?"

"I have no idea. Or rather, this craziness somehow reminds me of..." Sindri cuts herself off at the last moment, turning to Andre with a look of realization that her friend seems to have on his face too, as they both quickly understood what, or rather, who could be the cause for this absurdity.

"Yoru is here, isn't she?" Said Andre.

"It's gotta be her. Who else would cause this massive bug stampede but her!?" Sindri stated.

Andre then sighed. "Good grief. The event map wasn't enough and now she's causing chaos in the open world?"

"Whatever her reason, let's go, shall we?"

"Go where?"

"To where Yoru is, of course! If we follow the path where those Centibanes came from, we are sure to find her!" Sindri stated.

"And what exactly do you plan to do once we find her, sweetie?" Andre asked.

"Kill her. Or at least, shoot one of my arrows into those chocolate milkers of hers. It's a good opportunity for me to get back at her!" Sindri yelled in anger, making Andre sigh again.

"Good grief. Are you really being salty about what happened a week ago? We lost that match fair and square, even if the way we went out was... unexpected."

"No. It's not about that, Andre! Ever since I died to her army of bugs, I've been having nightmares about bugs for a week straight! I'm going to kill her for that and finally get some beauty sleep tonight!" Sindri bellowed, used her Acceleration skill and dashed off without listening to another word from Andre. Leaving him behind as well.

But instead of being upset, Andre simply laughed.

"Ho ho ho! Despite being all grown up, she's still a child as always." Andre stood up and watched as the last of the Banes rushed off into the distance with the subtle screams and cries of monsters and players echoing back into his ears.

Then, he used his skill, "Acceleration," and chased after Sindri.

"Wait up, sweetie! Don't leave your Papa behind!"

While following the trail back to its source, the Banes that created it continued marching forward. With Yoru and Akatsuki riding on their carapace, since the experience points won't be earned if they're too far away from the killer Banes.

"Hey, is it alright?" Akatsuki asked Yoru.

"What is?" Yoru replied.

"Those players just now. Weren't we going to take them out? They got away now."

"It's alright. The plan when it comes to players is to use the darkness to our advantage and have the Bane rush take them out by surprise. Especially after we had learned that player killing can also give us EXP. If they managed to avoid the ambush, then it's better to let them go than ruining the momentum of the rush just to get them." Yoru explained.

"Besides, our goal is to grind levels. Player killing is just a part of it." She added.

"Alright." Akatsuki acknowledged Yoru's explanation and went back on the lookout for any monsters or players that may be in sight.

"Oh!" She soon spotted a group of players off in the distance, as the lights from their Lamp Bugs shone brightly in the absolute darkness. Drawing much attention to Akatsuki and Yoru who are on the prowl.

"Yoru. 10 o'clock."

"Yeah, I see it too."

By both of their instructions, the Bane rush then turned left for its next victim to devour.

"Go go go! Kill them all, Bane!"

"""SSSSSKKKKKRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~!!!"""

"What in the wor—!?"

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

"Moooommmmmmmyyyyyyy!!"

"Oh! I've levelled up again! I'm level 27 now."

"Hehe~ Me too. Level 23 over here." Akatsuki flaunts her new level.

"Nice." Yoru complimented Akatsuki. Then, she checked the time. "It's around 4pm now. At this rate, we might be able to make it until you're level 25 at least before dinnertime."

"Then let us continue. Onwards, Bane!"

"""Sssskkkkkrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~"""

And so, the nightmare, that no one was aware of besides the victims, continued. For the next two hours, Yoru and Akatsuki's killing spree grinding went without any stop where their quest for levels quickly became the talk on the forum as a series of mysterious attacks from an unknown PKer.

Thanks for reading. 🍫

This one is a shorter chapter than usual. Sorry. Couldn't get into writing much. I also might need a break for next week. Sorry.
