Turns Out, I’m from a Real Aristocratic Family!

Chapter 40

Broken Engagement

Mu Qing was taken aback. “You’re going to proceed with the engagement?” Just as he uttered those words, he sensed the strange atmosphere through the phone. Confusion clouded his mind. “Then what do you plan to do?”

Bo Yi responded, “End the engagement.”

“End the engagement?” Mu Qing nearly jumped out of his skin. His expression changed instantly. “Master Bo, you’re not joking, are you?” However, Bo Yi’s tone didn’t sound like a jest.

Mu Qing gulped, feeling a sense of fear. “Master Bo, the engagement was arranged by the Elder Master with Lady Yuqi. If you break it off tonight, it will be a tremendous insult to the Cheng Family. The Cheng Family and the Bo Family have been close friends for years, and this will create a serious rift between them…”

“Lady Yuqi is the only daughter of the Cheng Family, and she is adored by many. If you end the engagement like this, how will Lady Yuqi find a suitable marriage in the future? How will the Cheng Family bear the humiliation?” These were real and pressing concerns!

Bo Yi remained silent, his gaze fixed on the traffic outside the window.

“Master Bo, I understand that you don’t like Lady Yuqi, and to be honest, I’m not fond of her either. I find her to be pretentious and hypocritical. In comparison, I believe Lady Fang Yuan is much more likable! But this matter goes beyond your personal feelings for Lady Yuqi. It affects the relationship between the Cheng Family and the Bo Family…” Mu Qing thought of the Old Master lying in bed. If he learned about this, he would be so furious that he might end up in the emergency room again.

“Master Bo, please reconsider,” Mu Qing pleaded, attempting to dissuade him.

However, Bo Yi had already withdrawn his gaze and spoke calmly, “Prepare the gifts. We will be there in an hour.”

“Master Bo…” Mu Qing knew that once his master made a decision, no one could stop him. But he still pushed himself to persuade him. “Even if you don’t consider the Cheng Family’s reputation, your friendship with Fifth Young Master Cheng, and Lady Yuqi, at least consider the Elder Master’s feelings, right?” The Elder Master had been eagerly anticipating seeing Bo Yi get married and have children, so he could witness the birth of a great-grandchild in his lifetime. But now, not only was that dream shattered, but Bo Yi was also heading towards a falling out with the Cheng Family, tarnishing his reputation. Mu Qing couldn’t bear to accept that outcome.

However, Bo Yi remained resolute. Mu Qing understood that no matter what he said, it would be in vain. He sighed helplessly. Master Bo’s decisions regarding his marriage were never dictated by anyone else, and if the Old Master attempted to impose his will, it would only lead to negative consequences. Lady Yuqi was to blame for her own arrogance. Not only did she fail to make a favorable impression on Master Bo, but she also jeopardized the Old Master’s wishes and undermined her own standing.

“Let’s not discuss Grandpa for now. I will personally speak with him when he’s feeling better,” Bo Yi asserted.

Mu Qing was taken aback. Was Master Bo trying to act first and report later? However, news of the broken engagement would inevitably spread, and once the Old Master learned of it, he would be furious. Hopefully, the news would circulate slowly, preventing further provocation of the Old Master.

Meanwhile, on the other side…

Cheng Ye and Qiao Xinhui finally caught sight of Fang Yuan returning home. They pulled her to the table and filled her bowl with food.

Cheng Yuqi had cried so much due to her mistake. She secluded herself in her room, pretending she had already eaten outside. She feared that her parents would hold her responsible for what had transpired.

After dinner, Fang Yuan engaged in conversation with her parents before heading upstairs to take a shower.

Cheng Ye and Qiao Xinhui settled on the couch, watching TV and sipping their tea. However, their tranquility was quickly interrupted by a maid’s arrival.

“Master and Madam, Young Master Bo is here!”

The servant who delivered the report appeared quite anxious. Bo Yi’s name carried significant weight within the circle of noble families. He was rumored to be ruthless and involved in both the underworld and the upper society. Many people trembled at the mere sight of him.

Cheng Ye and Qiao Xinhui exchanged worried glances. What was he doing here? Did he know about Yuanyuan’s return? Panic set in.

“Quickly, let them in!” Cheng Ye was caught off guard. He exchanged another glance with Qiao Xinhui, both unsure of what to do next.

Butler Zhao did not dare to be negligent. He went to lead the way personally. Soon, Bo Yi walked into the gate of the Cheng Family, surrounded by a few subordinates. The subordinates were carrying many precious gifts in their hands, which were placed at the door of the mansion. And then they waited outside the gate. Only Mu Qing was following him in. He was standing behind Bo Yi, looking very respectful.

“Uncle, Auntie, long time no see.” Bo Yi had always been cold and quiet, and he greeted them calmly without any emotions.

“Yi, what brings you here today?” Qiao Xinhui realized what was going on. She smiled as she saw the presents. “It is good that you are here, and you have so many presents with you. You are treating us like strangers.”

“Yi, come in and take a seat. Someone, make the tea again.” Cheng Ye greeted him enthusiastically. “After my fifth son goes abroad, you have not been to my place for a long time. Let’s have a good chat tonight!”
