Trapped in Paradise

Chapter 67

Chapter 67: All Because of Me?

I have to say, confronting the counselor is quite exhilarating.

Especially since Ning Chu already had a bit of a grudge against him.

But when it comes to getting scolded… not so happy anymore…

“If you have any complaints, say them privately! In a group with dozens of people!”

Han Jingye slammed his hand on the table in anger, “Am I too nice usually? Did you want a punishment just one month into the semester?!”

The usually arrogant Zhang Shaoqing had his head down, hands behind his back. As the “main perpetrator,” he couldn’t lift his gaze. Ning Chu and Wen Yang stood off to the side, casually exchanging glances.

What’s wrong with this counselor? Sticking around the school during the long break instead of going home?

“And you! Ning Chu!”

Ning Chu jolted, immediately straightened up, and looked at the counselor.

Seeing his slightly pitiful, youthful, pretty face, Han Jingye’s tone softened a bit, “What’s your contribution? You three live in the same dorm and are supposed to help each other, but you just learned how to stir up trouble, right?”

“Uh, not really.”

Ning Chu averted his gaze in guilt.

“Wen Yang!”

As the counselor turned his ire, he quietly sighed in relief but turned around only to see Zhang Shaoqing still snickering.

What a two-faced guy!

Rolling his eyes at him, Ning Chu’s gaze fell on Han Jingye’s desk.

He quickly scanned for any evidence of the counselor’s unethical behavior, but obviously, that kind of thing wouldn’t be out in the open.

The counselor staying at school during the break might be up to no good, and perhaps he had already succeeded…

The story in books has few settings, mostly boring, and this chapter about Han Jingye is just a side story with limited tags: “counselor” and “creepy guy.”

And the victim girl doesn’t even have a name; all we know is she has a nice figure and is pretty.

“You three! Choose an event to participate in! Otherwise, you all get punished!”

Zhang Shaoqing, who was just grinning, immediately turned into a sourpuss. He stubbornly turned his head away and ignored it.

That guy is a rich second generation; as long as he’s not expelled and can get his diploma, he’s fine. But Ning Chu didn’t have that kind of confidence. He racked his brain, thinking about what events or competitions he could join.

Honestly, he didn’t seem to have any special skills; the only thing he might be good at is writing small royal text.

The room fell silent as Han Jingye didn’t rush them, sitting at his desk, picked up his thermos, took a sip of tea, and looked down at his phone.

“I’ll join the sports meeting, maybe the short run?” Wen Yang spoke up first.

“Okay, I’ll note that down. Ning Chu, what about you?”

“I…” Ning Chu scratched his head in distress, “I don’t know.”

“Well, I’ll arrange something for you later. Zhang Shaoqing?”

Zhang Shaoqing defiantly lifted his chin, “I’m not doing it!”

“……”

Han Jingye sighed deeply, feeling helpless with such rebellious students.

He waved his hand with a hint of exasperation: “Get out!”

Swish~

The three quickly left the office, and Ning Chu let out a sigh of relief but still felt a bit worried: “Shaoqing, he wouldn’t really punish you, would he? That stuff goes on your record.”

“He’s just a counselor; does he have the power to punish me?”

Wen Yang explained from the side: “He can actually; the student handbook says you can get punished for insulting a counselor.”

Zhang Shaoqing paused, clearly a bit flustered. He looked back at the office door, mumbling, “Is it too late to apologize now?”

“Don’t worry; your family is rich anyway.” Seeing his change in attitude, Ning Chu couldn’t help but tease, “Even if they expel you, so what? You can go home and inherit the family business.”

“Not that; my mom would break my legs if she finds out.”

He suppressed a laugh: “Aren’t you into thrills? Flirting on the edge of having your legs broken sounds like a thrill to me!”

“Shut up! You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”

Ning Chu burst into laughter alongside Wen Yang.

“Shut up! You guys are still laughing!”

“Ning Chu! Come back here!”

Suddenly, their smiles vanished.

Ning Chu’s expression stiffened as he turned around to see Han Jingye standing at the office door, waving him over.

Uh-oh!

Could it be that I’ve really caught the counselor’s attention?!

Is that unnamed victim girl in the book also me?!

But with my skills, not to mention getting a scholarship; I can’t even manage to not skip classes, probably.

Feeling flustered, he instinctively cast a pleading glance at Wen Yang. Mistaking it for the counselor going after him again, Wen Yang comforted him, “I’ll go with you.”

“I’ll wait for you guys at the cafeteria.”

Nervously heading back to the office, Ning Chu bit his lip, looking down, and timidly raised his eyes to glance at Han Jingye.

No way am I stuck playing two side characters by myself?!

Could all the unnamed side characters in the book be me?

“Don’t be nervous.” Han Jingye pointed to a chair across the desk, implying he should sit down, while he looked up at Wen Yang, “By the way, have you sorted out the poverty relief subsidy? Some students’ materials are still missing. You need to hurry up; we need to get this organized after the break.”

“Uh, I’ve reminded them.”

“I need to talk to Ning Chu about something; you can go back.”

Ning Chu sat half on the edge of the chair, his body taut. He looked up fearfully at Wen Yang, afraid he would just obediently head back to the dorm.

Wasn’t it said to use scholarships to coerce people? Didn’t it say the victim was a girl?!

At least wait until I completely turn into a girl before making a move! Plus, isn’t this a bit too direct?!

Wen Yang could only give him a helpless smile: “Okay, I’ll wait at the door.”

“Wait a minute…”

He watched as Wen Yang left, but hearing that he’d wait at the door eased his tension a bit.

Ning Chu bit his lower lip, scanning for any handy weapons, swallowed hard to wet his throat, and planned to scream louder later so Wen Yang could break in.

“Ning Chu…” Han Jingye paused, asking, “You know Wen Yang’s family isn’t well off, right?”

That opening statement threw Ning Chu for a loop.

He looked at Han Jingye in confusion and nodded instinctively.

“You two seem to get along well, so can you talk to him about it? The school’s poverty subsidy requirements aren’t too strict.”

Ning Chu dawned on it, realizing this was what it was about!

Though the book mentioned the protagonist coming from a poor background and sometimes having to work part-time, leading to several encounters and romantic interests, he didn’t expect it had reached the level where one could apply for a subsidy!

Without hesitation, he agreed: “Sure!”

Han Jingye’s expression showed a bit of hesitation, and the momentary pause made Ning Chu’s nerves spike again.

“Do you have some bias against me?”

He froze, quickly shaking his head in denial.

“Every time you see me, it’s like you’ve seen a criminal.” Han Jingye chuckled, shaking his head, “Your gaze is a bit strange; it’s making me a little self-conscious.”

“No, not at all!”

This counselor seems like he’s actually not a bad person…

He seems to care about students a lot.

Ning Chu pondered internally, then suddenly had a little thought. He took a sly glance at Han Jingye’s expression and probed, “Teacher, why didn’t you go home during the holiday?”

“Me? I live in the faculty dorm, and if I go back, I’ll be pressured to get married, so forget it.”

That’s quite a valid excuse…
