Trapped in Paradise

Chapter 53

Chapter 53: Heat Stroke

“Hot… so hot…”

Standing in the shade, Ning Chu fanned himself with a flyer, yawning every now and then.

This outdoor promotional job is really no fun at all.

His social skills are just average; he’s not outgoing or thick-skinned. If it weren’t for Wen Yang’s protagonist aura, he probably wouldn’t be able to get through today’s part-time task.

Ning Chu had already pinpointed his role… support!

“Wen Yang! Let’s take a break?”

“Sure.”

Wen Yang stretched and returned to the shade, casually sitting down and gulping down half a bottle of ice water Ning Chu handed over.

“Not gonna work after today, right?” Ning Chu offered him a pack of tissues, “I’m not good at this kind of thing; I’m just dragging you down.”

He was not feeling guilty about dragging anyone down; it was just too sunny, and the temperature had soared close to forty degrees these past few days with no wind. Even in the shade, he felt dizzy.

Hotter than during military training!

Wen Yang wiped the sweat off his forehead and looked at Ning Chu, hesitating: “Well, how about you go back? This outdoor promo pays pretty well.”

“…”

How could he agree to something like that?!

Ning Chu sighed lightly: “Forget it, I’ll stay with you. At least it won’t be so boring with two people.”

After all, chilling in the dorm room blowing air conditioning and playing games was way more comfortable.

He rubbed his temples in discomfort when Wen Yang tentatively asked, “I have a part-time job indoors with air conditioning; the pay is good. Want to give it a try?”

“I’m not that short on cash…”

“If you go, I’ll definitely tag along.”

Working indoors in the air conditioning and preventing ladies from flirting with Wen Yang… surely that’s better than enduring forty-degree heat outside, right?!

“Okay! What’s the job?”

“Are you agreeing?” Wen Yang’s eyes lit up, but quickly he composed himself, nodding blandly, “It’s waiter work. I’ll take you to check it out tomorrow. They’re having an event and need people urgently; we’ll talk about the pay on-site.”

“A waiter, huh? I have some experience with that.”

Ning Chu didn’t notice anything unusual, smiling brightly. He had done waiting before and had a bit of experience.

It might be busy, but at least he could enjoy air conditioning and chill on his phone during downtime.

After thinking for a moment, he confirmed there was no related plot about waiters in the book.

“Should I just make an appointment with the boss for tomorrow morning? Can I start right away?”

“You’re in a hurry, huh?”

“They said they need people badly.”

Ning Chu nodded and was about to get up to grab another water bottle when suddenly he felt dizzy, his legs gave way, and he dropped to his knees.

Wen Yang looked at the cute little butt facing him, stunned for a moment, then hurriedly helped him up: “What’s wrong?”

“Probably… a little heat stroke.”

He helped Ning Chu up, glancing around and spotting a pharmacy across the street: “Let’s go to the store, rest a bit, get some medicine, and drink some water.”

“Okay.”

Limbs feeling weak, chest tight and pounding, his face was burning hot.

Ning Chu’s vision blurred; half-opened eyes relied almost entirely on Wen Yang’s support. Suddenly, he felt his feet lift off the ground.

The fear of losing his balance instantly jolted him awake, and he opened his eyes wide to see himself being carried in Wen Yang’s arms.

“Hiss!”

Did I just get princess-carried by Wen Yang?!

He couldn’t even muster a protest before Wen Yang took off running, the wild jostling making Ning Chu cling tightly to his neck, burying his face in his chest.

I can’t believe it! Why are we running so fast?!

“Stop! Stop! Slow down! Slow down! Ah!!”

Ning Chu was terrified, his mind blank, his eyes squeezed shut, unable to stop screaming.

Except for when he was a baby, he’d never been carried around like this before.

It was too scary!

In what felt like an instant, as he was gently set down, he tremblingly opened his eyes.

They had reached the pharmacy.

He nearly burst into tears; his eyes were misty as he looked up at Wen Yang, lips trembling: “I-I was so scared…”

Seeing Ning Chu’s pitiful appearance, Wen Yang’s anxiety softened a bit, soothingly comforting him, “I was worried too.”

Heatstroke might not be too serious, but you might just scare a heart attack out of me.

Ning Chu took a breath but suddenly realized he was still gripping Wen Yang’s collar tightly.

He hurriedly released his grip, trying to act nonchalant while scooting a bit away on the bench.

The pharmacist came over: “What’s going on?”

“He might have heatstroke.”

“Drink some Huo Xiang Zheng Qi liquid.” The pharmacist opened the pharmacy’s glass door for ventilation, pointing a fan toward Ning Chu, “Rest a bit. With this weather, it’s easy to get heatstroke. Buy some extra bottles to have on hand.”

“Okay.”

Wen Yang finally relaxed, eagerly following the pharmacist to grab the medicine.

But Ning Chu’s face wasn’t looking too good.

The symptoms of heatstroke made him dizzy, but what he found even harder to accept was that he had yet again had an intimate moment with Wen Yang.

Princess carry…

He suspected that if this kept up, he might not even become a girl before he ended up as Wen Yang’s girlfriend.

Forget waiting for the plot to unfold; he might have to make an appointment at the proctology department sooner than that.

“Ning Chu, drink the medicine.”

“Ugh… so bitter!”

“Since when has medicine ever tasted good?” Wen Yang chuckled at his miserable expression, “You knew to prepare me water, but why didn’t you get a bottle for yourself?”

“I didn’t think I was that thirsty…”

“Ugh! Just finish this half bottle first.”

Ning Chu grimaced at the strange taste of the Huo Xiang Zheng Qi liquid, took the water bottle, and gulped the rest down, finally feeling the taste wash away.

But then, his expression froze as he realized something.

Wasn’t this bottle already drunk from by Wen Yang?!

What if there was some saliva on it? Disgusting…

“You’re not thinking of that ‘indirect kiss’ stuff, right?” Wen Yang saw him spacing out and smirked teasingly.

“Straight men don’t think that way.” After taking the medicine, Ning Chu perked up a bit and retorted sharply, “Looks like you’re the one with a twisted mind?”

“…”

Ning Chu’s expression seemed even more dazed.

Hey, hey, hey! Speak up! Don’t just accept it!

“Just judging from appearances, it’s clear you’re the one a bit twisted.”

Finally, he relaxed; thankfully, Wen Yang continued teasing him, or he would really start to doubt whether this guy was actually interested in him.

That didn’t make sense! After all, Wen Yang had so many beautiful girls chasing him; how could a guy like him compete with those sirens?

“You rest here; I’ll head outside again.” Wen Yang sat up straight, glancing out at the street from the pharmacy, “I’ll be right at the pharmacy entrance.”

He had already learned to remain within Ning Chu’s line of sight.

So Ning Chu wouldn’t end up like that time at the amusement park, looking around anxiously, nearly in tears searching for him.

“Okay.”
