Trapped in Paradise

Chapter 51

Chapter 51 Part-Time Job

In the end, Wen Yang chose the tough gig of street promotion.

After all, street promotion is out in the bustling city center, with no risky business of secretly flirting with the ladies—just the sweltering heat and a bit of poor working conditions.

Ning Chu, feeling all feminine since his little buddy turned into a bug, wore a face full of displeasure but still hopped on the bus to downtown with Wen Yang.

At this rate, before his pet bug turned into a cat girl to repay him, he might end up becoming a sister himself.

“I guess it’ll take about two hours.”

Sitting side by side in the back row of the bus, Wen Yang sneakily glanced at Ning Chu’s chest.

“Two hours…”

“Not too bad; there’s AC on the bus. You could take a nap to avoid being tired later.”

Ning Chu still looked out of it, lazily resting his head against the window, and with the bus’s bumps, his head gently banged against the glass with an uhh.

“You… feeling down?”

“Yeah.”

Wen Yang pondered carefully; he wasn’t sure why Ning Chu was in a funk, so he cautiously asked, “How about I treat you to some milk tea? Something sweet might cheer you up?”

“Forget it.”

This broke college student wouldn’t even splurge on drinks, let alone milk tea.

Ning Chu yawned and closed his eyes.

“I still haven’t thanked you for last night…”

“No need to thank me!”

Mentioning it made him suddenly a bit irritated.

Wen Yang froze, realization hitting him. Could it be that Ning Chu was still upset about last night’s incident? He got drunk and even was drugged!

“I won’t drink again!”

“Not my problem.”

That little sulk of Ning Chu’s had him believing at first glance that he was dealing with a little girl.

“I’m napping. Don’t disturb me.”

Yawning, Ning Chu leaned back against the seat and shut his eyes.

He had a late night again the previous evening, researching small royal texts, playing games, and watching TV—before he knew it, it was already the wee hours.

Sadly, despite all his study, his little buddy had made no movement, and today he found it had turned into a worm.

So tragic~

He had to put aside the matter of helping Zhang Shaoqing woo Ling Ling. His main focus now was still to prevent the protagonist from getting the action.

Lost in thoughts, his consciousness gradually slipped into darkness.

Wen Yang suddenly felt a weight drop onto his shoulder. He turned to see Ning Chu leaning against him at an angle.

He didn’t think much of it, just noticed the scent of Ning Chu was a bit strong now.

Thinking it over, aside from when drunk, this seemed to be their closest contact—though Ning Chu always deliberately kept a certain distance from him despite their seemingly good relationship.

With the closeness, it was easier to observe Ning Chu’s chest.

His gaze dropped, and through the wide neckline, he could vaguely see a pair of snow-white mounds.

“Where’s the chest muscle…” His gaze shot away like he’d been zapped, and he felt a little thrill of peeking at a girl, along with a jolt of guilt.

Suddenly, he recalled the rumor Lin Li had spread in the class group:

“Actually, Ning Chu is a girl who snuck into the boys’ dorm because she likes him and became his roommate.”

Surely, she couldn’t really be a girl, right?

Wen Yang’s gaze drifted back to Ning Chu’s face.

Unknowingly, that youthful boyish face had transformed into the face of a young girl. Though there was still a hint of male traits between his eyebrows, compared to other girls interested in him, in terms of looks, he was already on par.

As for the build… that little chest muscle wasn’t worth looking at. If converted into a girl’s bra, it might only measure to an AA level.

However, with that mix of masculine character traits and feminine beauty, Wen Yang thought Ning Chu was more attractive than those girls pursuing him.

At least Ning Chu would join him to game, even if he was hopelessly bad.

Wen Yang’s expression softened as he looked at Ning Chu. He tried to keep his upper body stable so that the sleeping Ning Chu could be more comfortable against him.

Breathing in Ning Chu’s subtle, elegant scent made even the dull two-hour bus ride feel less unbearable…

“Wake up, we’ve arrived.”

“Ah?”

Not sure what he dreamed about, when Ning Chu lifted his head, Wen Yang couldn’t help but notice a stream of drool at the corner of his mouth.

His hair was a bit messy, and his face showed all the confusion of just waking up. Those big eyes looked a little dazed, making him appear quite bully-able.

“Where are we?”

“Next stop is coming up.”

Ning Chu gradually became aware, squinting and stretching before finally looking lively.

He scanned the bus interior and noticed it was packed with passengers. His once dazed expression quickly turned vigilant as he scanned all the female passengers.

Thank goodness, even in the small royal text, there weren’t that many creepy guys around.

“Time to get off.”

“Alright!”

He followed Wen Yang up, squeezing through the crowd, and got off at the back door.

As soon as he got off, the hot temperature hit him. Ning Chu immediately jogged to take cover under a tree’s shade, curiously sizing up the city center.

Above him loomed a massive elevated bridge, and off in the distance, tall buildings rose, with a relentless flow of vehicles.

“So many people…”

The congested pedestrians on the sidewalk made Ning Chu frown involuntarily.

Everything around felt foreign, and with countless creeps lurking in the shadows of the small royal texts, he felt a twinge of anxiety.

Luckily, Wen Yang was right beside him.

As long as he stayed close to the main character, he shouldn’t encounter any peculiar dangers.

“Where are we heading now?” Ning Chu leaned closer to Wen Yang, looking up.

“You don’t know where you’re going? You still came with me, not scared I’d sell you off?”

He hesitated for a moment, nodding firmly.

Neither the harem main character from the book nor the current little virgin would do such a thing.

If Zhang Shaoqing had said that, he would have booked it the other way.

But why did you look at me so gently!

Ning Chu felt goosebumps rise under Wen Yang’s soft gaze. He twitched his lips and turned his head to hide his awkward expression.

Why did it feel like things were getting weirder?

Did I say something wrong?

“Let’s go. We’re doing a promotion for an app. First, we report to the company, then we’ll promote at the subway entrance where the foot traffic is high.”

“Okay.”

Ning Chu was shorter and, while he had long legs, they paled in comparison to Wen Yang’s long strides, so he could only jog to keep up.

“When do we start, and when do we wrap up?”

Ning Chu hadn’t really understood the part-time job he was there for—he was just there to “monitor” Wen Yang’s romantic prospects.

“We finish when we complete thirty download registrations. Three hundred wages, and it’s cash on the spot. Bonuses for exceeding the target.”

Wen Yang glanced back at Ning Chu, who was leaning forward, his little legs moving quickly, occasionally needing to run a few steps to keep up.

He slowed down, smiling, “If you can’t keep up, just say so.”

“I’m fine, I can keep up!” Ning Chu’s eyes lit up, “Only thirty? That means we can head back soon?!”
