The Witcher: Lord of the Empire

Chapter 37: The Lion and the Wolf

Lann frowned and pushed the door open with great force, making a loud noise, attracting the attention of everyone in the room.

"Your King has done something even more stupid now, Baron." Lann whispered: "I ran into Nastrog's troops under King Ervyll on my way here; They attacked a caravan from Cintra and blamed the dryads for the attack, it seems that they desperately want your death and that of the princess."

"Therefore, Verden is now an enemy in my eyes."

"So please be careful with your words and speak less, Baron. Save your energy and recover a little more, you will need it."

There were three people in the room, two of them were strange men that Lann had never seen before. One is sitting and the other is lying down.

The third person is Ciri, who rushed towards Lann once he finished speaking.

At the precise moment Ciri charged in his direction, the familiar sound of the system, like a holy sigh, rang in his mind.

[Mission: Princess in Distress-Completed]

At that moment, Lann felt a weight lift from his heart. Ciri had not suffered any mishap; destiny returned to its natural course.

As long as everything goes on normally, he can relax and use this opportunity to get other things he wants.

"Lann!" Ciri rushed into her familiar arms. Her tense nerves finally relaxed, allowing the fear she had long suppressed to emerge, and her body trembled as tears began to flow.

'This is what a normal little princess looks like.' Geralt thought to himself.

The witcher looked at Lann carefully. The man in front of him was tall, with a serene presence, but still showed a youthful touch to his features. He couldn't have been more than eighteen years old, maybe even younger.

He looks very handsome, even too handsome, and his golden hair seems to attract the sun. A cold armor combined with that face is definitely a weapon to capture those noble ladies.

His ability was not easy to judge; The armor hid his muscles, but the mere fact that he had entered here alone spoke volumes.

On the other side, Lann comforted Ciri softly, and at the same time, he also focused on looking at the two people in the room.

The one lying on the ground was of no importance; It was Baron Freixenet, the commander of the Verden wedding party. A non-relevant secondary character.

But the other one... Lann examined him carefully.

He has milky white hair, a beautiful face but marked by experience, a scar next to his left eye that fortunately did not affect the eye, adding a ferocity to his appearance. His eyes were amber, with feline pupils, mysterious, deep and melancholic, with an air of indifference towards everything.

He carried two swords, an alchemy backpack on his shoulder, and a necklace in the shape of a wolf's head. He wore tight-fitting black leather armor, reinforced with plates on the shoulders, arms and chest, seeking a balance between defense and agility, and strong muscles that filled the armor.

An aristocratic lady raised in a boudoir might hesitate to look at this slightly dangerous appearance. In the eyes of women with a little experience, it is a walking fountain of hormones. It's no surprise that in The Witcher Series he had such an active love life.

In the future, his stories will be compiled into poems by his poet friend and circulated for centuries, becoming important research materials for historians, mystics and writers.

He is the main protagonist of 'The Witcher' series of books and video games, the legendary witcher of the School of the Wolf, White Wolf, Geralt of Rivia.

Most of the time Geralt can come off as apathetic, cynical and threatening. Despite his seemingly cold nature, Jaskier noticed that behind his exterior lurked a fiercely loyal friend, a man of good humor, and someone who was not indifferent to suffering.

He was also very protective and loyal to his friends and colleagues and was willing to go to great lengths for those he cared about. He could be kind and affectionate with the people he loved.

Geralt also proved to be extremely skilled at defusing intense, and sometimes bleak, situations, and as a man who would rather everyone return home than draw their swords. His lifespan made him a world-weary man, who often expressed disdain and devious insults toward those he considered cruel, foolish, etc.

However, the current Geralt had probably not yet reached his full maturity. He still has a long period of confusion before he adopts Ciri and completes mutual redemption with her. Even though Geralt's actual age is actually over ninety years old.

Ciri finally released all her suffering and fear, childish emotions coming and going quickly.

Seeing the glances between Lann and Geralt collide in the air, Ciri became interested and began to introduce them excitedly.

"Lann, this is Geralt of Rivia. He was the one who protected me from the dryads during this period. He also saved me from the mouth of such a big centipede. He also said that he was a witcher. Oh, Lann. He’s the witcher Mousesack mentioned in class!”

Ciri tried her best to open her arms and gesture, although no matter how she waved her short arms, they could not compare with the length of the giant centipede. Then, she buried her head in Lann's embrace and whispered in a voice barely audible to both of them.

"He said he was Geralt of Rivia. Grandma and Mousesack both mentioned him. He is that, Geralt."

Lann nodded to show that he knew, and then thanked Geralt. Even if Geralt is Ciri's adoptive father in the future, he is still an outsider to Lann and Ciri now.

"Thank you for taking care of Ciri during this time, Geralt of Rivia."

Geralt waved his hand. "She's a very smart girl, she even told me a fake name."

The witcher laughed to himself. While he was alert with everyone, he was not alert with children, but who would have thought that today he would be fooled by one. However, he didn't care; the witcher found the situation amusing.

Baron Freixenet seemed to have finished assimilating the news brought by Lann and accepted the fact that he had been abandoned politically by the King of Verden, or in other words, he expected it. Now that he has confirmed it, he feels a sense of relief as if a large stone has fallen from his heart.

"Witchers..." Baron Freixenet tried to join the conversation. He felt that he needed to say something to ease his mood. "This is the first time this child has seen a witcher. This was not the case in my time. Nowadays, there aren't many witchers left and you may never see one in your life.”

Ciri seemed a little dissatisfied with Baron Freixenet interjecting into their conversation. After taking a look at the injured baron, he remembered something interesting.

"Lann, do you know that Baron Freixenet was cursed by a witch and turned into a cormorant? The kind of cormorant that likes to eat fish! It was Geralt who turned him back into a human."

Lann touched Ciri's head and responded: "I heard this story in the tavern. Baron Freixenet of Verden, but the story said that he turned into a swan and had ten brothers. The sweater her sister knitted turned them all back into humans, and this version seems more romantic..."

"What a damn romance, what a damn story!" Baron Freixenet seemed very dissatisfied with the adaptation of the story. "Ten brothers, plus my sister and I, did my mother have twelve children? Is it that the rumors consider my mother to be a female rabbit?"

Both the witcher and Ciri laughed happily.

Baron Freixenet was murmuring his discontent when he noticed two figures entering the cabin, suddenly, he became silent.
