The Outbreak

C.30 : Too Late, Rebirth from Ashes

CW : Trauma, Abuse

Orissa headed in the direction of the other vampire, not relying on scent so much as the weird feeling that they were over in that direction.

Getting closer, the only thing any of them could smell was the stench of dogs! All three vampires, Orissa, Odelle, and Sierra stopped, peering over the edge at the scene below, anger simmering within them.

Below was a vampire's body slowly turning to ash. Jumping down into the alleyway, Orissa could tell a few things from the scent alone, the vampire was a female, and she hadn't died peacefully.

She could smell the wolf's toxins in the vampire's remains, breaking down the cells and stopping the regeneration. The vampire wasn't in one piece, with her limbs lying some distance away turning to ash as well.

"Too late, she can't overcome the damned venom from those mutts!" Orissa felt extremely annoyed because she could feel the vampire's will still resisting the toxin, slowing the rate of her death, but she could only imagine the pain she was enduring.

"Mm." Orissa bit her wrist and held it over the vampire's body, letting her black blood trickle out on to the ruined body. When it made contact, the rate of deterioration was overcome by the assistance of the newfound more potent virus that helped repair the damage.

"You will be okay." Orissa knelt and bit her wrist again to reopen the wound, letting the vampire who was still conscious drink from her wound by placing her wrist in the vampire's mouth.

"Will she survive?" Odelle and Sierra grabbed the vampires limbs and held them out to Orissa who dripped some of her blood on them and motioned for them to reattach them.

"Her heart wasn't too deteriorated yet, so she will be fine." Orissa looked as new skin and flesh were produced by the overabundance of virus in the vampire's system.

"She was just a child..." Sierra mumbled when she saw the vampire's face healing, feeling pissed that those mutts would harm a child even if she was a vampire.

The young girl's crimson eyes opened slowly and met Orissa's purple ones. She could hear what went on and knew she was being saved, by this beautiful big sister holding her now so she tried to thank her, but her voice didn't work.

"Shhh. Rest, your throat is healing. Those dogs were merciless and tore your throat out as well. You'll survive this, and become stronger, okay?" Orissa gently took her wrist back and patted her head.

"Before the sun is up, those dogs will die. She needs a few more minutes for her bones to completely regenerate." Orissa lifted the girl and leapt back to the roof, snorting to get the scent of dog out of her nose.

"I thought she was dead?" Sierra examined the girl and saw that the bite wounds were fading quickly, and a familiar blood colored crystal formed around her.

"She was beyond saving, so I could only promote her, but I think I overdid it." Orissa placed her on a relatively clean spot on the roof and mumbled sullenly.

"She's going to live, so no matter what you did, it was worth it." Odelle chimed in as she landed nearby, wanting to change because the scent of dogs had stuck to her clothes.

"If she was only a Noble it would have been fine, right? But she's a Royal Vampire now..." Orissa smacked her forehead in slight regret.

"So she's like you?" Odelle examined the crystallized girl curiously but aside from her facial shape changing, she couldn't tell a difference from herself and a Royal.

"You won't see much of a difference unless you fought. She's stronger now and she heals faster too. That aside, she can influence minds like me, but doesn't seem able to raise someone's rank." Orissa watched as the crystal fragmented and shattered, revealing a dainty girl with delicate features and pointed ears looking at them framed with wavy brown hair and purplish red eyes.

"Thank you!" The girl bowed respectfully and gratefully because she could recall every second of her near death encounter. Those wolves tore and maimed her until she was immobile, and when she could no longer resist the toxins in the bite, she could feel her body dying slowly, becoming ashes even as other parts struggled to live.

"Are you okay? We're going to kill those wolves, want to join us?" Orissa flashed her an evil smile, one she returned when she thought of how she begged them to let her go, up to the point her throat was torn out.

"You've suffered, but don't worry, now, you can beat them to death." Sierra spoke and the girl nodded and then lowered her head and spoke again.

"Zaylee. That's my name." Zaylee was a bit shy, but that made the other vampires even more angry thinking about how the wolves tore nearly tore her apart.

"I'm Odelle, the one with fiery hair is Sierra and the black haired beauty with intense eyes is Orissa." Hearing Odelle's description of her, Orissa chuckled and pointed in a direction, one where she could still smell the wolves, covered by a more human scent.

"I think they changed back." Odelle led this time, Zaylee looking a bit wary because of her previous experience, but she kept up, not using all that she had or else no one save for Orissa could catch her.

"Where did you stay before? How did they catch you Zaylee?" Orissa asked her as they came to a stop above an small community, from which she could smell various scents, mostly those dogs.

"I was exploring because before I became this, I wasn't allowed to go outside since my dad said no one would want to see me or be my friend. I wanted to see people outside, but they surrounded me and started to bite me before I could run away."

All the vampires looked at Zaylee with anger in their eyes, not at her, but at the animal who would dare to call himself her father and treat her like sh*t.

"Zaylee, when we kill these dogs, let's go pay that man a visit, okay?" Orissa smiled, but the promise of death within was clear, but to Zaylee who was saved by her, she just nodded obediently.

"Good. Now that you've come out, you've made three friends already, see?!" Orissa pointed at herself, Sierra and Odelle which made Zaylee brighten up considerably with happiness.

"Thank you for being my friends!" Zaylee had always been left in the darkness of the basement for as long as she could remember, and having friends like those characters in the books was always very novel to her, and now she finally had some too!

"Mmn!" They all smiled when Zaylee gave them a blindingly pure smile, one that made them wonder how she ended up becoming a vampire.
