Lesser angels are the counterparts to greater demons. They're easily recognizable, with their white wings and auras of holy light. Reincarnated souls from another world, granted unique powers and skills. However as angels they're driven by a desire to protect rather than an obsession. This means they're usually much more reasonable and willing to work with humans. It unfortunately also means they're usually both younger and weaker. Younger because they're far more willing to merge with humans to advance their goals, and weaker because their power comes from fanaticism, and most aren't fanatics.

Angels have abilities that bend or sometimes break commonly held magical rules. Those powers usually revolve around healing, generation of light, and protection/resistance to harm. As stated those abilities are linked to the conviction an angel has in the righteousness of their cause. Most lesser angels are hesitant to kill, meaning their skills bend even more towards defenses and healing.

Lesser angels are still monsters, and thus need some magic to survive, though they last longer than most monsters. They also can be bound like monsters, and there's several rituals available to do that. They cannot however be tamed. Binding lesser angels is dangerous since they can abuse linguistics and details to act against their controller. However if you aren't a terrible person they're usually quite reasonable and don't deliberately cause problems.

While angels all have differing views on the divine, they notably all have 'el' as part of their names. This matches the tower tradition, where 'el' signifies 'of God.'

Lesser angel merges are uncommon, but not as rare as people might imagine. Lesser angels frequently decide their need to defend others would be better served with someone else leading the charge. As such they're quick to willingly offer themselves as a merge to worthy youngsters. Lesser angels might train someone specifically with the idea of merging with their student. In fact given lesser angels can converse with those they've merged to, the teacher can help their student for the rest of their life that way.

The merge gives the blessed recipient a slight glow, showing they've been empowered by an angel. This glow will intensify or fade depending on how much power the blessed is using at the time. Sometimes the merge lightens the eyes or hair color as well.

More interestingly the blessed human has access to all the lesser angels powers, so long as the angel within wishes. In fact most blessed are considerably stronger than the angel they merged with. The partner's faith in each other boost their conviction, and the angel within is usually much more willing to help their host than to commit violence for their own sake. The blessed have great healing and dangerous light based attacks, on top of superb defensive abilities.

Of course if the pair's bond becomes strained or their faith weakens all that power can vanish in a flash.

Lesser angel merges can be very powerful if you agree with the angel, or absolutely worthless if you have a completely different moral compass. Which means hunting down lesser angels for merges is stupid. If you're chosen you'll get one. If not, chalk it up to luck and move on.
