Chapter 80: Mutated Clay Golem

Chapter 80: Mutated Clay Golem

The basic construct had now evolved into a mid-tier construct!

Don’t be fooled by just one rank upgrade; the combat strength of the clay golem was now equivalent to two of its previous versions!

With enhanced defense and HP, Clay Golem No. 1 had become an even more formidable tank.

With it holding the front line, Matthew could cast his spells with much greater ease.

What pleased him the most, of course, was the 4-point increase in intelligence.

Its endurance had tripled, making it capable of sustaining a full-scale battle!

Although Matthew had expended 1,000 experience points, he considered it well worth the cost!

After all, with more golems like this joining the soldier formations, both offensive and defensive capabilities would be greatly enhanced.

Naturally, his ability to gain experience would also increase significantly!

Thinking of the impending giant hunting campaign, a smirk appeared on Matthew's lips.

The success of the first clay golem filled him with confidence!

Matthew promptly began preparations for the second one.

Unlike the initial failed attempts, Matthew felt an increasing mastery over the process.

It seemed that his deepening understanding of the internal structure of the clay golem made casting the spell much smoother.

After about half an hour,

The second clay golem was successfully crafted.

Its attributes were identical to the first—yet another clumsy tank.

Matthew wasn’t disappointed by this; although the second didn’t provide the same level of enhancement as the first, it still contributed 3-4 levels of magical item crafting experience.

Equivalent to how players burn money to boost their skills through materials.

Every arcane player was well-versed in this method!

The only problem was that everyone was short on money...

Matthew continued creating clay golems over the next period.

The blue glow of magic lit up repeatedly, as tall clay figures gradually increased in number.

The third golem...

The fourth...

The fifth...

As Matthew began working on the sixth, a peculiar feeling suddenly washed over him.

Especially when he poured in over 10 points of mana into the spell model. Instead of dissipating, the mana continued to circulate.

He immediately realized that something unusual was happening!

However, Matthew soon noticed...

The system display showed no visible changes. This particular clay golem seemed no different from the others.

“This shouldn’t be the case…”

Matthew scrutinized the clay golem repeatedly. He wasn’t willing to let this anomaly slip away; if the system data was useless, he would resort to his final intervention!

“Spend 100 Fate Coins to activate Fate’s Decision!”

His intuition rarely failed him, and now, with his luck in a stable phase, Matthew decided to take a chance!

“Ding, Fate’s Decision activated.”

“Option one: Spend 2,000 experience points and 200 Fate Coins to guide the mutation of the clay golem perfectly, Luck -3.”

“Option two: Abandon the mutation guidance, allow it to fail, Luck +2.”

A mutated clay golem?

Only a 5% chance of occurring?

Matthew’s eyes lit up as he quickly analyzed the two choices.

Normally, a drop in luck would soon manifest itself, either by encountering enemies or facing challenges.

Right now, Matthew needed more opponents to harvest experience points!

Upgrading golems and possibly magical equipment in the future would require a vast amount of experience points.

And the most enticing part—this mutated clay golem would surely obey Matthew, its creator, making the choice clear!

After Matthew chose the first option, his remaining experience points dropped to 11,500, his Fate Coins to 1,200, and his skill points were now at zero.

As he comforted himself, he thought, "Fate will simply send me more enemies, giving me more opportunities to reap rewards."

Just as Matthew pondered this, he noticed the previously dormant system display suddenly flashing back to life:

"Cast Vitalization Empowerment!"

Without hesitation, Matthew spent another 1,000 experience points and witnessed an astonishing sight.

Brilliant blue light enveloped the mutated clay golem, as a far more complex spell model and mana channels formed within it.

“Ding, insert Earth Elemental Crystal.”

Matthew placed another Earth Elemental Crystal onto it. The light yellow crystal was absorbed into the clay, merging with the golem’s body.

A smaller clay golem, roughly Matthew’s size, appeared before him!

It had a humanoid appearance and physique, with yellow-tinged eyes, slender hands, and nimble fingers.

What astounded Matthew the most was this:

After its creation, the mutated clay golem respectfully placed its hand over its chest, bowed to Matthew, and said:

"Great Master, thank you for granting me life. I will devote my existence and loyalty to serving you with all my heart!"

“Ding, mutated clay golem successfully created. Magic item crafting level +20, current total: 91 (mid-tier).”

Evaluation: A curious lifeform in the process of growing!

"It can create clay golems on its own? It can brew potions?"

"This... this is truly a treasure."

What’s the definition of a pleasant surprise?

This was it!

As Matthew looked at the unique lifeform he had personally created, his eyes gleamed with anticipation:

"Since you’ve been granted intelligence, you should also have a name. From now on, you will be called 'Mountain'."

Hearing this, Mountain's eyes glowed brighter, and in a louder, firmer voice, he replied:

"Thank you, great master, for naming me. What will my duties be?"

Such human-like intelligence and reasoning left Matthew in awe.

Was this the outcome of altering fate—a mutated clay golem?

Matthew felt an urge to continue experimenting but decided to hold off for now. His mana reserves were depleted, and he had run out of materials.

The crucial Earth Elemental Crystals used in creating clay golems had all been exhausted.

Over 500 gold pieces worth of materials had been burned through!

Matthew winced at the cost, knowing he needed to make money quickly.
