Rising Shards

Interlude S2.1: “Filming Practice”

Hey all! Just a heads up that the next batch of chapters will be a bit shorter, I decided to try some mini chapters between Season 2 and 3 instead of the recap like I did between 1 and 2. I hope you like em!

Iris and Kalei walked through the doorway, adjusting their sunglasses. Maia held her cell phone up in front of them.

“Alright, where is she!” Iris said.

“This will be way better once we have the suits.” Kalei said.

“Don’t need the running commentary.” Lillia said. She stood behind Maia, taking her directorial duties as seriously as she took class work. “Keep the scene rolling.”

Iris and Kalei approached me and held their hands up, doing pretty well at looking like intimidating interdimensional demons trying to get a secret key from me. I wasn’t really sure what I was supposed to do so I sat at the little fake office area we set up.

“Alright Zeta, just hand it over.” Iris said. “We know you’re one of the spy demons.”

“Her character name isn’t Zeta.” Lillia said.

“This is just test footage, lay off.” Iris said.

It was time for my line. I was ready to show off my acting skills, mainly for Oka.

“Heh heh heh…” I said. “Does this sound like something one of the spy demons would say?”

Everyone got uncomfortably quiet, which made me very concerned. “Was that…like super good?”

“Lillia, you’re an actor.” Kalei said.

“I am too!” Oka said.

“Right, but you’re dating Zeta, so you’re gonna give a very biased answer to this,” Kalei said.

“I have a feeling this is gonna make me cry...” I said.

“Just…what would you tell Zeta on an acting level to make her not do that again?” Kalei asked.

Lillia chuckled.

“What’s so funny?” I asked.

“It’s rather sweet, is all,” Lillia said. “Kalei sounds like Reit chastising Oka for her acting flourishes a bit ago. You and Oka are more similar than you think.”

“Aww…” Oka said.

“I dunno how much more similar Zeta and Oka can think they are.” Kalei said.

“How about compatible instead of similar then.” Lillia said.

“Aww! We’re so compatible.” I said dreamily.

“Also, that better not mean I’m a lot like Reit Kilander.” Kalei said.

“I think the acting criticism is the only thing remotely similar between the two of you,” Lillia said.

“Maia, why haven’t you gone yet?” Iris asked.

“Because I’m not playing anyone,” Maia said. “I’m on crew, remember?”

“I don’t…” Iris said. “But what if I want to see you acting?”

“Then you’ll have to just imagine it or something.” Maia said.
