Reborn in the Post-Apocalyptic World: Building Infrastructure

Chapter 83: Wrong Decision

As soon as they heard the sound, both of them turned their gaze towards it.

They saw a person, resembling a monkey, dashing across the ruins and disappearing in an instant.

Su Ling couldn't help but glance at Sheng Hongye, contemplating before asking, "Why does he keep mentioning Panlong Island?"

And how did that person manage to travel from Lizhou to this place?

The man appeared disheveled and kept repeating the same phrase, giving the impression of mental instability.

Yet, it seemed as though he was suggesting that Panlong Island might be humanity's last hope.

And Sheng Hongye seemed to be familiar with this place.

"I don't know," Sheng Hongye shrugged, though his Indian attire made him look less cool and somewhat amusing.

Su Ling forcefully held back her laughter and after a moment, she inquired, "Last time you mentioned that Panlong Island wasn't on any map. If we decide to go there, can we find it?"

"Do you want to go?" Sheng Hongye raised an eyebrow.

Su Ling looked at the desolate surroundings, her voice tinged with seriousness.

"After a tornado, who knows what other natural disasters might occur? Perhaps Panlong Island is indeed a place filled with hope."

Sheng Hongye frowned, and a strange image flashed in his mind—several people walking on a road covered in sand and dust...

Could it be that they actually went to Panlong Island?

However, that place...was not somewhere he wanted to return to.

"What's bothering you?" Su Ling lifted her face, her cheeks flushed from the sweltering weather, softening her somewhat stern features.

"Is it difficult to get there?" she asked.

Sheng Hongye pondered for a moment before replying, "It's not particularly difficult, but...it may not be the kind of place you imagine."

"Do you know much about it? What is it really like?" Su Ling was curious.

Sheng Hongye seemed reluctant to answer, shaking his head. "If you insist on going, I can take you there."

"Then let's hurry back to Lizhou first and check the situation there. If the food is gone, we'll head to Panlong Island immediately."

Su Ling took a few steps and added, "Before that, I think we should find two sets of clothes to wear."

Glancing at the floral fabric draped on himself, Sheng Hongye clenched his teeth and uttered two words.

"You're right."

Seeing him grit his teeth like that, Su Ling once again suppressed her laughter.

Sheng Hongye immediately turned to glance at her.

Su Ling cleared her throat and turned her face away.

"Sorry, my throat isn't feeling too good."

Sheng Hongye clenched his teeth. "Let's go."

Two hours passed quickly, and Sheng Hongye had some luck finding a pair of jeans with a brand logo and a jacket that fit him reasonably well.

The former president who was worth tens of billions of dollars, didn't care if it was dirty at all. He shook off the dust and quickly put it on.

Su Ling wasn't as fortunate; she rummaged through the debris and found a set of women's clothes, but they were children's size. Trying to put them on, she found they barely covered her navel, so she had to give up.

Now, the only option was to return to Lizhou for clothes.

In her Passat, she had several sets of spare clothes, assuming the car was still intact.

However, a new challenge soon presented itself. They had been walking for so long and still hadn't come across anything like a road sign. They had no idea where they were or how far they were from Lizhou.

To make matters worse, the entire city was almost completely destroyed, and there were no buildings taller than one meter in sight.

Except for the car running out of fuel, almost everything had malfunctioned, and apart from the two deformed instant noodle boxes, they hadn't found any other food to sustain them.

"Our situation doesn't seem good," Su Ling said, finding a stone to sit on and looking at the colorful heaps of garbage.

Sheng Hongye's expression turned serious.

The situation here was much worse than he had imagined.

Seeing Su Ling's parched lips, Sheng Hongye suddenly remembered that they hadn't had any water for a day.

"You must be thirsty. Let me go check again."

"No need, we need to conserve energy," Su Ling replied, relaxing a bit. She added, "We've basically covered half of the city; there should be no water sources left."

"There are still places we haven't explored. Don't lose hope. Let me check again."

Sheng Hongye gazed into the distance, his spirit still strong.

Su Ling was quite impressed by him.

He is indeed a man with super strength.

"You wait here, don't wander," Sheng Hongye said, turning around. He was about to take a step, but then he noticed some movement in the ruins.

A blackened creature crawled out from within.

It turned its head and made a hissing sound towards them.

"Be careful." Sheng Hongye immediately stood in front of Su Ling.

Su Ling also got up.

Soon, another heap of garbage shifted.

A zombie with a twisted head crawled out in a bizarre posture.

As if infected, seven more zombies emerged from under the rubble.

Sheng Hongye's face changed slightly, and he reached out to hold Su Ling.

"Run."

Su Ling was startled, and instinctively grabbed Sheng Hongye's clothes.

"Put me down, I can run by myself."

Both of them still had their shoes, so running on the ruins wasn't an issue.

"Let's not talk now."

Sheng Hongye held Su Ling and glanced around. Then, they ran towards the unexplored north.

Su Ling looked back and couldn't help but sweat.

More than twenty zombies were chasing after them, and their running speed was almost comparable to that of ordinary humans.

"There are too many zombies; it's hard for you to deal with them alone. Let's go back to the metal room. I have the reinforcement ability; we should be able to hold them off."

Sheng Hongye hesitated for a moment. There were indeed no other buildings to hide in, so he had to listen to Su Ling and ran back to the metal room they were in before.

They ran all the way and finally reached the metal room. Sheng Hongye picked up an iron stick from the ground and blocked the door.

Before they could catch their breath, the zombies caught up.

Listening to the scratching sounds outside, Su Ling couldn't help but shiver, she immediately reinforced the metal room's defenses.

Because the space was not big, she and Sheng Hongye were almost right next to each other, there was no need to deliberately find points of contact. The reinforcement ability directly added thirty percent to defense. After a minute, the defense had been reinforced to one hundred and fifty percent.

However, this situation didn't even last five minutes; the defense started to decrease continuously, and the scratching sounds outside grew stronger.

The sound was teeth-grittingly irritating. Su Ling couldn't help but cover her ears, feeling very uncomfortable.

This was definitely a wrong decision.

Su Ling suddenly regretted making this decision.

She glanced at Sheng Hongye and saw him frowning too, his face looking quite grim.

It's still daytime now, and if it's nighttime, there might be even more zombies.

Even if one don't get bitten by zombies here, this sound will drive one crazy.

Ten minutes later, Sheng Hongye couldn't bear it anymore and stood up.

"No, we can't just sit here and wait for death."

He reached out, pulled out the iron stick, and kicked open the door.
