Overlord: Ancient One

Chapter 19: World Champion III

Following his disappearance from the Colosseum, Arthur appeared in a room with a long, poorly lighted corridor and a high ceiling. It's wide enough for a giant to easily walk. Long shadows appeared to dance in their own flickering light, which was produced by distant candles whose flames were flickering.

There were some sort of latticed, portcullis-like gates along the tunnel and in front of him. Through the cracks in its surface, magnificent white light radiated. The route continued into the shadows behind him, and as it did so, torches could be seen at several entrances that led into the corridor.

Only the crackling of the torches could be heard as everything remained silent. He has to admit that, even with modern technology, this is incredibly advanced because the developer can accurately reproduce even the smallest of features.

"... Impressive, they really went all out on this." Arthur said as he began to walk towards the gate.

When he approached the gate, It rose upward with impressive speed, as though it had been waiting for him all this time. The first thing Arthur saw as he entered the arena were rows upon rows of audience seats around the arena.

"—The challengers have arrived!" A well-dressed man spoke into the rod-like object that was floating in his hand, and his amplified words resounded throughout the arena.

"The Challenges have arrived at the arena in their pursuit of the title of 'World champion of HELHEIM'."

"To my left is the Arch-fiend 'Necto' as Challenger from MÚSPELLSHEIM, who was unable to participate in the match at MÚSPELLSHEIM and had to join HELHEIM." As a two-meter-tall demonic entity approached the arena, the anchor spoke these words. He wielded a long sword and was dressed in gaudy armor.

"To my right is the Doppelganger 'Ancient One' as Challenger from HELHEIM, who seems to have forgotten to put on his gear and only has a sword in his arms." The thunderous voice of Anchor's introduction of both players caused the arena to vibrate and shake.

The arena shook as if to greet the entrance of these two new competitors before erupting in raucous applause.

"As both Challengers are here, let's start the battle without delay." Anchor said as he looked at both of us. "ARE YOU READY?" In a loud voice that echoed through the Colosseum, To which both of us nodded.

Suddenly, a Timer appeared above them again and started counting down. It didn't need to explain everything since all the players had already been given a list of information and rules about the tournament, so Arthur and every participant are expected to know what to do at this moment already.

{Let's get started}

The moment that the timer hits zero, Arthur immediately bursts and rushes toward the opponent.

The Archfiend wasn't surprised by this. He immediately reacted by raising his arm and throwing a heavy straight punch toward the incoming Arthur.

But since the punch was aimed towards Arthur's face, he easily dodges it by going on all fours on the ground. Arthur immediately raised his sword from the side and made a slash toward the legs of the Necto.

The demon was not fast enough to block or dodge the attack, this should be the case, but when Arthur's attack was about to land, a barrier suddenly erupted and covered up the Arch-fiend's whole body.

"Well, That's a surprise" Arthur said, as his attack was seemingly blocked by a transparent barrier.

"... Sh*t!" The Opponent for some reason, after this, had become extremely anxious as he immediately pulled back his arm and swung down his long sword towards Arthur.

"Let me guess, your Job class should be Warrior-Monk or something close to it, right" Arthur asked Necto but he didn't reply as he continued with his attack.

From Arthur's first two attacks alone he was able to come to the conclusion that his opponent has a Job class which is related to weapons, martial arts, and a barrier that could neutralize a physical attack, and from his reaction that barrier can only be used for a number of times, and Warrior-Monk is the closest Job class which has these Characters.

But YGGDRASILL is a game of surprises where every bit of Information can be altered or even faked And information about the opponent is important, especially in a PVP match, A single piece of wrong information can crumble our whole plan.

But Arthur was not feeling scared or nervous about it, as from the enemy attack pattern, he can say that the opportunity doesn't pose much of a threat to him. After all that, Arthur didn't waste any more time and immediately rushed back towards the Archfiend and engaged in a fight with him again.

Arthur didn't have a hard time Dodging all the enemy attacks since his agility was really high, he can also land his attacks successfully. Anyone can see that this fight is pretty one-sided and that Arthur will have no problem winning this one.

The fight didn't even last for five minutes before the winner was finally announced.

Arthur didn't even drop a single virtual sweat at this match. If so, the moment the fight ends is like Arthur saying that he doesn't want to fight any longer.

"The winner of the first match is Ancient One, As they say, we can't judge a book by its cover." The anchor declared as thunderous applause followed after.

Arthur was teleported back to the Colosseum, where he previously was and he sees that a ten-minute timer had appeared on the system interface.

"*Sigh* That was pretty easy." Arthur said as he sat down on his seat, and opened the ranking list of HELHEIM, to which a screen had popped up in front of him and it shows an enormous bracket of Players that also joined the World Tournament, saw that his name 'Ancient one'' had moved up to the next round.

Seeing that still time left he decided to watch the match that was going on in the arena.

After a couple of minutes had passed, Arthur looked up at the timer again and saw that it was almost time for the next round already.

"Here we go again"
