Overlord: Ancient One

Chapter 16: World Champion

The online multiplayer role-playing game, YGGDRASIL, has been available for four years. More players joined and participated in the game as time went on as a result of the game becoming bigger and more well-known. The most popular topic among all gamers worldwide almost every week is YGGDRASIL.

The game is now much livelier than it was during the early months. When Arthur first began playing the game, he rarely ran into other Players, especially Heteromorphic players, even when he traveled to different worlds. Back then, there weren't very many players.

Even now and then, Arthur feels lonely. He thinks he's the only player left in the game. He doesn't really care, though. After being reincarnated in this world, he has grown accustomed to being alone. But now that the game has gained so much popularity, he is able to interact with Players in every corner of the region he was in.

He even made new friends inside the game.

Occasionally, he will go and join the Party with them, then go for some dungeon raids and quests but he doesn't show them his other Avatar as it may become a hassle if someone reports it. Arthur invites them to join the party if a Special Event starts.

If an Event has been announced where one needs to have a team first before being able to join, then Arthur will immediately find some team he can join. But if being solo is fine, then He will join alone.

Through all the months and years that Arthur played the game, he didn't play alone every time. Unlike what he originally wanted to do.

But rather than saying "he did not," it is more accurate to say "he simply can't." The difficulty of the quest increases as Arthur travels deeper into the YGGDRASILL maps, to the point where even he cannot finish it alone. Or, to put it another way, he cannot move forward without a team to help him.

Currently, Arthur can still manage the level of difficulty he's facing. But he knows that he cannot take everything alone, since being a level 100 inside the game doesn't mean that you can beat anything already.

However, Arthur is currently way too far ahead in terms of weapons and items compared to every other regular player in the game. The Monsters and Bosses he might encounter in the game are the only things on his mind for a reason. He doesn't give a damn about the Players, despite the fact that they occasionally hunt him down in multiple groups of enraged Players.

Without them knowing about his other Avatar, he is currently the unofficial Rank 1. the person who excels above everyone in every way. The player dubbed "Strongest Player"

This fact, however, is not unexpected.

This was inevitably going to happen because Arthur played YGGDRASIL like a madman with little rest and spent a lot of money on it.

Unlike other players that have other things to do in real life, Arthur is the opposite. He spends his whole day playing YGGDRASIL and takes only a break if he needs to sleep or gets hungry, that too because of Friday's constant remake to get proper sleep.

He grinds Exps as much as he can and buys all the strong and important items that he might need or be useful in the future.

He also has a lot of strong Items, Unique Spells, Powerful Skills, Jobs, and Racial classes that he distributed across his three Avatars which he has.

He has a lot of resources that obviously, many players don't and that's what makes Arthur strong.

In those four years of playing, nothing particularly noteworthy occurred. Everything is routine; he grinds experience points, raids a few dungeons, and occasionally runs into some unfortunate PKers. Not just common PKers, but also players who make a living by PKing.

The discrimination against the Monster class started in the second year of YGGDRASIL and grew worse to the point where it almost became a part of the game.

Many Players kill and hunt Heteromorphic Players regardless of the situation just because it's what they call "The efficient way".

Thus, the age where heteromorphic players were being hunted down by Groups of Players has officially begun.

Many Heteromorphic Players have started to hide or go toward the worlds where they can be safe. Where least PKers can be found roaming around.

He also encountered and PKed a lot of Humanoid players, but he is not going around, killing all Humanoid Players he sees like some bloodthirsty psychopath but did kill all the humanoid players who pissed him off like a typical villain.

It's just that, all the Humanoid Players he had met so far, were either PKers or some angry dudes that wanted to personally hunt him down so he had to hunt them as it was only fair and equal.

And it's not like Humanoid is the only race he PKs, there are others too. Just like any other PKers, Arthur also has the same status cause he too PKs a lot. Not just Humans but Demi-human and Heteromorphic too because of this his karma value has beautifully sided negativity.

For Demi-humans, Arthur encounters them a lot actually since the majority of normal parties consist of at least one or two Demi-Human. Same for PKers parties.

The only foes Heteromorphic is confronted with are a bunch of fools who attempted to engage in combat with him after noticing his equipment. Arthur is a neutral player with a negative 500 in karma, so for those who choose to attack him or try to PK him, he just gives them a nightmare by looting all their gold and items.

He concealed his power level for the same reason so that any humanoid or Demi-human could attack him and get caught in a trap. Although it is evil, it is the best way to obtain rare gear and one-of-a-kind crafting materials.
