My Magus Academy is Run by Players?! [Western Cultivation LitRPG]

Interlude: Lizbeth’s Observation

It was the early hours of the morning, after midnight and before dawn.

Lizbeth, an assistant fairy of a long-abandoned academy, turned her eyes and studied her master as she floated into the room where he was asleep. Her master was a young man in his late teens with striking blue hair and sharp features — Victor.

“Watching him sleep like this is always reassuring…” She made a tiny smile. Is this truly the person that my predecessor is waiting for?

For Lizbeth, most of her life had been monotonous. At least, as far back as her memories reached, she had been the assistant fairy of this academy, with no memories predating her current role. This didn’t mean that she wasn’t curious about her past, but whenever she tried to recall something, there was always an crippling headache that accompanied it… She was scared of pain…

Yet, she had an inkling that she held a deeper connection to this whole front of the Magus Academy System; it felt like she might be responsible for something of great significance. Her master had always asked her many questions about the academy, and her inability to provide detailed information had secretly became a source of disappointment to her.

In any case, it had been more than half a month since she began her observation. Though the time had not been long, she had come to learn a lot about Victor. Frankly, it was because of this reason that she had developed a fondness for him as a person.

This young man was actually reincarnated from a world where there was no magic, the exact same world where he had duped a bunch of people into playing his “game” and becoming his lackeys. While she knew that she bore some responsibility for luring these poor souls, it was all part of the grand plan to create the finest Magus academy in the universe.

Right, that was her sole purpose in life — her raison d'être.

Her existence was about aiding the headmaster of this academy in achieving this lofty goal. She didn’t know who had set her on this path or for what purpose, but it had become her sole solace in her timeless existence. As a matter of fact, millennia had passed as she witnessed the unchanging scenery without being able to escape from it.

She was lonely. So much so that she continually hoped that someone who could fulfill the headmaster role would appear in these long millennia. Or when she could be relieved of her position and be free from this torture of time. After all, few ventured to this place, and those who did manage to encroach on the periphery of the academy were unworthy. Only he had checked out for this special role.

Lizbeth stared intensely at her master’s peaceful sleeping form. “If it wasn’t for me, I wonder, would you have died then?” Guided by her and on the brink of death, he got a second chance to live in this world — a third chance overall. And best of all, an opportunity that no one wouldn’t be tempted by. Yes, she had been the one responsible in saving him many times behind the scenes.

The arrival of this young man, who had ascended to the position of headmaster and her master, had transformed everything. Initially, it seemed too coincidental, but it appeared to have been predetermined by her predecessor. Thus, after a long time, her monotonous existence saw change. A glimmer of light piercing the darkness of her heart — a respite from the endless solitude.

Thinking about the short but wonderful memories that surpassed the boredom of millennia brought a smile to her lips. Victor had been fascinating her with his actions and decisions. Each passing day deepened her interest with his ingenuity. Just today, in particular, his unwavering determination and leadership shone brightly amidst the chaos of the arachnid invasion. He faced the challenges head-on, unafraid of the consequences.

If it’s him… Won’t my goal for existence be fulfilled someday? Maybe even sooner than later, Lizbeth thought in her heart.

Nevertheless, the aftermath of the arachnid invasion had clearly taken a toll on him, with him now physically drained and sleeping like a log. Occasionally, she would worry about his well-being. Despite her inclination to slack off and how she might appear a bit indifferent to most things, she actually cared a lot deep down — she would go to great lengths to assist when she could. Regrettably, her abilities were limited, so she often had to rely on others, like…

Her gaze turned toward the dozing wolf pup by his side. She wondered what would happen if she hadn’t instructed her to assist him back then. Perhaps something disastrous would have occurred. Having found the companion she had sought, she had no intention of losing it. The players were immortal, but Victor only had one life.

“Still, it’s interesting to contemplate what Master will accomplish in the future. Hehehe.” By now, she had developed a profound understanding of Victor’s character, and no one knew him better than she did.

Subconsciously, she flew closer toward Victor… Her eyes were fixated on him and moving toward his forehead. What transpired in the following moments was unexpected, even for her. It was a gentle gesture, so delicate that it might have escaped notice by anyone else. Like a fox stealing a chicken, as Victor lay beneath the warm quilt, she graced him with a soft, warm caress against his forehead; the touch barely brushing against her most delicate skin.

It lasted for only a fleeting second, but in that moment, she bestowed upon him the blessing of having the most wonderful dream… Just for today, she would be the one to stay vigilant, watching over him as he found solace in the embrace of darkness.

The challenges that lay ahead were unlikely to be simple, yet even if the world turned against him, she would stand steadfastly by his side until the very end. For she was the one responsible for guiding him on his journey — a journey that would last for an eternity.

As the night gave way to dawn, she continued to watch over Victor. And as the sun’s rays pierced through the horizon, she knew that their journey together had only just begun.
