Moonlight Blue

Chapter 16

Demonic Arts vs Heavenly Body

“Saber, what just happened?”

“That’s one of his abilities. He’s able to draw a blade out of his body.”

Is that even possible? If it wasn’t for Saber, then I would have sustained a heavy injury by now or worse, I could have died.

“That’s called a Demonic weapon,” exclaims Ray. Demonic weapon, huh? “What’s up with it?”

“A Demonic weapon is a weapon wielded by high-rank demons. Unlike a regular weapon, a Demonic weapon is fused with the wielder as one.”

“How is that possible?”

“That is because a Demonic weapon is made by the demon in question. When a demon reaches the Demon General rank, they are able to create their own Demonic weapons and the weapon is the personification of their personality. So, they don’t get to choose which weapon they create. Since that weapon is created by their demonic energy, it is a part of their bodies. They are able to call it out whenever they want. Since the weapon is connected with the demon, no matter how much the sword is damaged or destroyed, as long as the demon still has demonic energy in its body, then the weapon can be instantly repaired.”

I see. So, basically, that butcher-like blade is Mephistoles’s Demonic weapon.

“You dodged that?” Mephistoles is stunned. “You keep surprising me, Allen. Meet my Demonic weapon, Greed. As the name suggests, this guy is a personification of my own greed. Greed grows stronger with every swing I take. Prepare yourself, Allen the human.”

With a smirk on his face, he charges at me once more. Crashing his blade against mine, I can feel the difference in power with every strike. His strikes grow stronger with every swing as he said. He slashes at me once more but this time, his strike is too heavy for me to completely block. He is able to breach through and cut my chest.

“Do you get it now? You can’t win. Stop your futile resistance and I might let you join me. You are strong and we demons believe in strength. With your strength, you might even become a guardian since you were able to kill Mantis. So, what do you say?”

Huh! So, Anti’s name was Mantis. Fuck.

“No thank you.”

“I see. Then I guess I’ll show you the difference in our power.”

Energy bursts out of his body. The energy is weird. It is as if it is alive. It condenses on his body as it forms an armour around him.

“This is my true power. Demonic Art: Impregnable

Fortress.”

So, that’s his demonic art, huh? Since he is a Demon Lord, he’ll probably have more of them.

While I am pondering, he attacks but this time, his attacks are reckless. Is he that confident in his armour? He swings his blade towards me but I dodge it and counter with a slash. My attack doesn’t do any damage. It feels like it bounced off. He slashes at me again. I use teleportation magic to dodge the attack and counter from behind. But still, my attack doesn’t put even a dent on his armour.

“Teleportation magic too? I’m reluctant to kill a gem like you the more I fight you.”

“Don’t flatter me too much, you’re making me blush,” I say, panting.

He charges at me again and again. Using teleportation magic I am able to dodge most of his attacks. As he steps onto the ground, a magic circle appears. A burst of flame looms from within it, enshrouding him in a vortex of flames.

“Hellfire.”

Hellfire is a high-level magic spell I found in the Draconic Book. It is said that Hellfire can burn anything in its path. I implanted the magic circle without his knowledge thanks to Ray. I just hope it does some damage though.

“Thanks for the heat. I was feeling a bit cold,” he says and jumps out of the hellfire, grabs me by my face and is almost about to slam me to the ground when I escape using teleportation.

“Tsk, that teleportation magic of yours is really annoying.” How come my hellfire didn’t work? I wonder, panting.

“You look tired,” he says with a smug smirk. “Are you ready to give up and be my slave?”

“Be your slave?” I ask, panting.

“You refused my first offer after all.”

He’s right, I’m tired. I’m tired? Why am I tired? Ray, how’s my body’s condition?

“You’re not looking well, kid. Both your magic and mana levels are low. The wounds you’ve sustained aren’t healing anymore. It seems that somehow, your instant regeneration was halted by something.”

What’s going on? Come to think about it, the energy in both Saber and Ashes has reduced from how it was before. I haven’t been using techniques that exhausted me too much, so why?

“I see you’ve started to realise it. That you’ve grown weaker ever since I revealed Greed.”

Greed? His Demonic weapon. But why would he bring up his weapon?

And then it hits me. When he revealed his weapon, he said that it grew stronger with every swing… but how? There isn’t anything in the world that is created from nothing, especially energy. So, how does it get stronger with every strike? Come to think of it, the hellfire didn’t damage him either. Is it really because of his armour, or is there something else? Thanks to thought acceleration, I’m able to think like this even though I’m in the middle of a fight.

With everything that has happened thus far, I have come up with one conclusion:

“It’s your weapon, isn’t it?”

“Took you quite some time to figure it out. Yes, it is my weapon, Greed. Greed doesn’t simply get stronger but he uses the energy of the opponent to get stronger. The first attacks I used on you with Greed, you thought you were blocking them but Greed was absorbing your weapons’ energies and converting it all into his.”

“And the hellfire? You used Greed to absorb the flames’ heat too, didn’t you?”

“Very perceptive of you. The two heroes never figured that one out, but that brat Merlin did. He was such an annoying human with that teleportation magic, like you.”

“So, not only did you absorb the energy in my swords, but also the energy in my body, didn’t you?”

“Yes. With each and every attack I landed on you, no matter how small it was, Greed was able to absorb your energy.”

To think ability like that exists. “Why are you telling me all this?”

“Well, no reason really. You’re going to die after all, so I guess that’s why.”

I guess it can’t be helped. I was reserving this for when things get dire, but I guess now is the best time to use it. I then place Saber and Ashes in my storage space. Get ready, Ray.

We’ll be using ‘That’.

“Roger!”

I close my eyes, kneel and focus.

“Hmm, finally giving up! You should rejoice human, for you have fought with the strongest in this world. Accept your death like a true warrior.”

He then charges at me and swings his sword. As his sword is about to make contact with me- “Heavenly Flame Body.”

My body bursts in flames and I punch him in the gut before he can slash me, sending him crashing against the trees with an explosive thud.

“What the hell just happened? I couldn’t even see the attack,” Mephistoles in a stunned monologue.

He looks up and sees a body engulfed in flames. My white hair is now scorching red. My blue eyes are bright red. My hands are covered with this bright red-orange flame and so are my feet. This is my Heavenly Flame Body. My clothes have also turned fiery red.

A crack appears in Mephistoles armour but he seems to not care about it. In fact, he seems enraged by something.

“Why?” he roars and it echoes. “WHY?! WHY DOES

YOUR FORM LOOK LIKE THAT BASTARD’S?”
