Marvel: Cultured Reader System

Chapter 06

That notification made me uncomfortable at first, but gradually I began to understand what it was all about.

Illyana was an extremely complex woman, even in her teenage years. As I had a bit of remorse for being a few years older in my old life, I spent my time with her as a friend.

In the first year, our affinity as a pair became more and more evident. During our free time after lunch, the two of us trained together in the monastery, perfecting our magical skills.

Even with her power under control, it was common for Illyana to have difficulty using the magic portals. Since her mutant factor ended up getting in the way.

However, in the second year, all that changed. His skills as a mutant became more prevalent, as did his mastery of swordsmanship. Meanwhile, I continued to improve my reading and ranged techniques.

At the end of the second year, at Illyana's insistence, I started training in swordsmanship. I learned with the help of Magik and some of Kamar-Taj's fencing teachers.

During our third year as a duo, the old woman left Kamar-Taj for several days. During this time, Wong took over the place while she solved some problems related to the magical containment division in New York.

Thanks to this, Illyana and I were put in charge of the library. This position gave me a little more freedom to better understand how magic worked and to increase my intelligence points a little more.

During those months, I constantly used astral projection to learn about magic. I even surpassed my training partner, who was focusing on her skills as a mutant and swordsman.

Still, no book could prepare me for what was about to happen on my eighteenth birthday. When the tenth of July arrived, the old woman called all the most prominent disciples from Kamar-Taj and the other facilities to a meeting.

...

Walking through the corridors, the look on most students' faces was one of concern. This was an unusual event, which meant that a war was approaching.

The children and teenagers were nervous, sitting at their desks while waiting for the adults to return. As I approached the freshman class, I began a nonchalant conversation: "You seem a bit nervous, are you studying properly?"

The new students remained silent, but two girls who seemed to be sisters nodded. "Well... It seems like you guys are lacking some energy"

Holding out my hands, an orange circle appeared below my palm. Then various sweets began to fall from the magic circle, a trick that would cheer up any newcomer to Kamar-Taj.

"Take it," I said, as the apprentices excitedly held out their hands and thanked me.

Behind me, Illyana's voice rang like a melody in my ears "Our veterans weren't so kind, you'll end up spoiling them"

Nodding my head, I confirmed, "You're right, but they're still not used to octopus stew"

The young people started laughing, "I miss pizza," said one of the older ones.

That gave me a gigantic nostalgia, "I have a secret for you, look for the arcane materialization grimoire. With them, you can turn any weird soup from the cafeteria into pizza"

Illyana tugged my ear, "You're going to give Kamar-Taj's dentists a hard time, anyway, we need to get to the elder's meeting"

As Illyana pulled me by the collar of my shirt, I waved as I walked away from the newcomers. The look on the faces of those youngsters, who must have been between six and thirteen years old, had changed completely.

"It's sad that they have to worry about the war, you did well, Dante," said Illyana, with a gentle smile on her face.

A notification popped up in front of my eyes. At the same moment, I realized that Illyana was now eighteen. Perhaps carrying out that mission wasn't wrong, I had grown close to her over the last three years.

...

When we entered the hall, it was easy to see that the atmosphere was different. While the halls of Kamar-Taj were worried about a possible war, the members of the world's top magical echelon were extremely confident in their abilities.

Going through a portal, Illyana and I sat down next to Rintrah and the masters of the Chinese monastery. The room we were in resembled an opera house, with a raised circle in the center where the old woman was sitting a little above the floor.

Several masters of the mystical arts of different colors and races kept appearing through the portals, and a few minutes later, the portals disappeared.

The room remained surprisingly silent, it was even possible to hear the old woman's breathing. Then the gentle mage with alopecia stood up, rising a few centimeters in the air as she observed the various mages in the gigantic room.

"They attacked the Sanctum Sanctorum in London this morning, the man behind this feat is the same who had previously invaded the New York division. His name is Victor Von Doom, a great master of the magical arts. Last week, we received a series of letters at all our facilities."

A silence hung over the room as everyone understood the situation. Dr. Doom's name was so famous in this universe that even the most distant masters of the mystical arts knew this villain.

Raising her hand, Illyana was the first to break the silence. "Do we already know your interests?"

The old woman nodded, "He wrote in his letters that he wants to get the eye of Agamotto"
