LUSTFUL PARADISE: Shinmai cross DxD

CH 59: REACTIONS

When the dust finally settled, Akeno looked down and she could see that aside from some dirt on his shirt, Basara was absolutely and unscathed.

‘Just what is this power?’

She couldn’t help but wonder if it was the power of his sacred gear. Initially, she thought it was a Twice Critical but now it seemed she was wrong.

“Oh my, how scary Basara-kun. I didn’t know you had such a trump card under your sleeve.”

Akeno commented idly to hide the worry in her heat. She had given her all in the last attack but couldn’t even hurt him.

It was upsetting to admit but it seemed that he was right. They were far weaker than him.

“You do not need to look down. Your skills are far superior to what I thought. Color me impressed.”

Akeno widened her eyes in surprise, ‘Why is his voice so close?’

She looked up hurriedly only to gasp. After all, she could see Basara floating right next to her and behind him….three large pair of wings open wide. Two of the pair of wings were obviously dragon wings which was surprising enough.

But the last one…

“Devil’s wings?”

Those were the last word of Akeno before she was ruthlessly eliminated. She had been so surprised that in the end, she couldn’t even react to his attack.

—--

[So you decided to stop hiding?]

Basara shook his head as he observed how Akeno was slowly vanishing. The security measures of this Rating game were top-notch.

[Partner….?]

“Sorry. I was lost in thoughts. As for hiding. Heh… I don’t really have a choice now do I? Since they are showing this to the Gremory family might as well air everything on my own terms rather than waiting to be questioned.”

Basara knew that the truth about him was no secret to the adults. So he wanted to take the initiative to reveal it himself.

[Haha, now then what will you do?]

“Me? Nothing. The fight lasted less than five minutes but it was pretty explosive. Even though there was no announcement, once the five-minute interval is up, they will know that I won and Akeno was either eliminated, detained, or fled. Either way, they will have to react. I just have to wait.”

This was a hunting game and so Basara wanted to slowly ensnare them before taking them down one after another.

—--

“How…So he is a devil? Is he a reincarnated devil? No this isn’t possible if he was this whole fight wouldn’t make any sense. Then…A Half? Also, how does he have dragon wings?”

Standing up, Sona began to pace like crazy in the room of the student council. It had to be said that what she saw in those few minutes was crazier than the last.

Firstly was Akeno's incredible display. While she may have lost the fight, her methodical way of approaching it was worth learning. Though she doubted anyone in her peerage had the firepower necessary to replicate this display.

But what mattered was what came afterward.

‘A power to dispel magic?’

she placed her finger on her lip and began to bite it. This was torturing her. The lack of knowledge was like a poison and she looked like someone who lost themselves.

‘Why am I even thinking so much?’

She immediately turned around and faced Grayfia.

“What is happening?”

“To be honest? I only have an answer to half of your question. As for the rest? It’s not my place to divulge any secret.”

Sona scowled but she knew she couldn’t force Grayfia to spit the truth. All she could do now was to wait and observe.

Inwardly though, she had to admit that she was happy to know he was a devil-like her. Even if partially.

Be it love or friendship, relationships between people with large longevity and those with small ones generally finished with bad feelings from either side.

One would grow old and weak and see their friend or partner never change and would curse their mortality.

The other would look at the older-looking person they shared so many memories with and the reality of their approaching death would haunt them, making them curse their immortality.

Sona didn’t know what kind of relationship she really wanted with Basara but she knew that as long as he was mortal and her immortal then it would never go anywhere. Now though, all those worries vanished.

After all, half devils were still devils. They could live nearly as much and sometimes more.

‘What I am thinking?’

She fanned herself because she could feel her cheek rapidly reddening.

Tsubaki that was sitting close to her was no less happy. After all, unlike Sona, she did know what she wanted from Basara and knowing he was a devil-like her was great news.

‘Perhaps I should act bolder?’

She blushed as she thought about acting more proactively. She had no experience with people of the opposite sex and she had been raised all her life in a traditional family. Still, she knew that sitting and waiting wasn’t the way.

She threw a look at Grayfia, the only adult woman in the room, and thought that perhaps she should ask for some advice from someone with experience in the matter.

A few minutes later, when the two lights once again flashed, revealing their positions, Basara stretched a little and begin running in direction of Rias?

By then, Kiba and Koneko should have already formulated a plan with Rias and he didn’t want to give them too much time either.

‘I don’t want to use Banishing shift on the power of Destruction.’

He didn’t know much about the so-called power of destruction. But if it shared anything with the Banishing shift, he didn’t want to risk it.

[Or perhaps you should?]

Basara stopped.

“What do you mean?”

[Think about it. For the last ten years, you lived in fear because of what your power could do. But now look! You are in a place where whatever you do, no matter how much power you use, you will hurt no one and destroy nothing. Isn’t this the best occasion?]

Ddraig tried to convince Basara and he honestly thought this was the best occasion for him to overcome his trauma.

[Fleeing from a power that is yours will never help. If you want to have a better control, you have to have a better understanding of your own power. Only then will you be able to know what you can and cannot do.]

“....Sigh…”

Basara closed his eyes and clapped his cheeks with his two hands to hype himself up.

“You are right. But not now. I will ask permission to come here later alone. This place is indeed the best training ground possible for me to try things.”

There was only so much he could do by just swinging his sword while at him after all.

Now that he was decided, Basara began to rush once again. Up ahead he could see the large building where assemblies was generally held. It was clear that traps were waiting ahead but Basara didn’t care.

Now that he was sure that he wouldn’t hurt them permanently, even though he wouldn’t use everything, Basara was now freer.

[BOOST!]

Boosting his speed, Basara transformed into a bolt of lightning as he rushed and blasted the door apart and entered the large auditorium.

“Swords?”

Looking around, he was surprised to see no one in the place. All he could see was a large number of swords that were pushing out of the ground with their blades pointing toward the sky.

‘I have a bad feeling.’

His hunch was proved correct when fire suddenly covered all those words. Then,

BOOOMM!!

The entire auditorium was blasted apart.

—-

“Heh. Did you know Kiba? Art is an Explosion.”

Kiba cringed a little at the quote Rias suddenly threw at him while observing the blazing crater that was now the auditorium. He knew that Rias was a pure and absolute Otaku and he had indeed watched some of those anime with her.

The trap had been pretty simple. When the light vanished, Kiba used his speed and carried Rias far away to a place decided prior where Koneko was waiting for them while leaving swords of fire he created there with his sacred gear. Then, while staying at the largest distance possible he made all of them explode the moment Basara entered.

This was a crude plan but the explosion of all those demonic swords was no joke. Even for Basara, it shouldn’t be easy to escape from this.

“Of course, you know this isn’t the end right?”

“Indeed.”

While they didn’t see the fight they had felt the shockwave and saw the thunder so they knew Akeno lost after giving everything she got. As such, they had to do the same.

“Well then. Koneko, Kiba. Let’s go for phase two of the plan.”

““Yes!””

(AN: Next chapter will be the last of this little fight arc.)
