Axis stared at the bird, its claws incessantly scratching against the glass, producing an eerie, rhythmic sound that echoed through the quiet room.

"Why did you come here?" Axis whispered, hoping for some response from the creature. But the bird, eyes bloodshot and fixated, continued its relentless assault on the window, oblivious to his question.

The mechanical nature of its movements only deepened the unsettling aura surrounding it.

Why did it come here? The question echoed in Axis's mind, intertwining with the shadows of his recent discoveries. There had to be a reason—something more sinister than a mere accident of nature. 'System, can you track back to the one who was controlling it?'

{Will try, host.}

{Analyzing…}

{Found the connection.}

{Tracking back the connection to the source…}

{Tracking failed.}

{Re-initiating…}

{Tracking failed.}

{Ding! Tracking has failed due to the power gap between host and the source.}

{Currently unable to track the source.}

Axis clenched his fists, frustration boiling beneath his calm exterior. It's okay. It just means I have to grow stronger faster, Axis resolved, the determination crystallizing in his mind.

{Yes, host.}

"Good thing the glass is well fortified," Axis sighed, casting a final glance at the possessed bird. He closed the window, ensuring the room was secure before turning in for the night. The events of the day had left him drained, yet his mind buzzed with unresolved questions and growing suspicions.

As Axis settled into bed, far from the duchess's mansion, a different scene unfolded in a dark, foreboding castle. A figure sat in a dimly lit chamber, their eyes glowing with a malevolent light that seemed to pierce the very shadows surrounding them.

"Milord..." a servant's voice broke the silence, hesitant and trembling.

The figure turned slightly, acknowledging the servant with a mere flicker of their eyes.

"The connection has been severed," the servant reported, bowing low in a mixture of fear and reverence.

"Killed?" the figure's voice, though soft, sent ripples through the air with its chilling intensity.

"Yes..." the servant confirmed, beads of sweat forming on his brow.

"Did the boy kill it?" the figure inquired, their tone dangerously calm.

"No..." the servant replied, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Then?" the figure prompted, an edge of impatience creeping into their voice.

"It was killed by someone we couldn't see before they struck," the servant explained, his anxiety palpable.

"I see. He has someone protecting him. It's not unexpected," the figure mused, their lips curling into a faint, sinister smile.

"Milord..." the servant hesitated, fear making his voice waver.

"Is there anything else?" the figure asked, their eyes narrowing slightly.

"The connection was traced back..." the servant's voice trembled, the words spilling out in a rush of panic.

"What?" the figure's voice grew louder, more intense, filling the chamber with a menacing resonance.

"Milord, mercy. We managed to block the tracking..." the servant pleaded, his head bowed deeply, fearing the wrath of his master.

"Who was tracking?" the figure demanded, their eyes glowing brighter with fury.

"We do not know, but we suspect it was the boy..." the servant replied, his voice shaking.

"Are you joking with me?" the figure's tone was dangerously low, each word dripping with barely contained anger.

"I wouldn't dare, milord..." the servant stammered, his fear evident.

"Then do you expect me to believe that a five-year-old, who can't go outside without supervision, managed to trace back a spell that even other Defiants can't track?" the figure's voice was a low growl, filled with incredulity.

"My mistake, milord. It must have been the one who killed the scout," the servant corrected hastily, desperate to appease his master.

"Yes, keep a watch from a safe distance," the figure commanded, their tone leaving no room for further error.

"Yes, milord," the servant bowed deeply, relief washing over him.

"You are dismissed," the figure said, turning away, their focus shifting back to their malevolent plans.

The servant retreated, never lifting his head while in the figure's presence, the terror of the encounter still clinging to him as he left the chamber.

The implications were clear. They would have to act soon before Axis grew strong enough to become a real threat.

The figure's lips curled into a sinister smile as they plotted their next move, their mind racing with schemes and machinations.
