I Opened a Clinic in the Apocalypse

Chapter 120

TL: Moonlit

Several military vehicles left the north city gate and immediately split into two directions after leaving the city. One team went to Li City, while the other team headed towards the battlefield in the east.

Indeed, Xu Shengfei was dead; otherwise, the zombies wouldn’t have lost control. However, even in death, her body held valuable secrets. If they could extract the virus used to create zombies from her body and find a way to control them, it could potentially herald a new era for humanity.

Xu Shengfei was of utmost importance, and they had to find her corpse.

However, when they arrived at the battlefield, all they found was the severely mutilated body of Lin Wenjie and some emaciated zombie corpses. They searched the entire area but couldn’t find Xu Shengfei’s body.

A burly man nearly 2 meters tall stood with his arms crossed, adorned with blue tattoos that covered his neck. Only his face remained clean. He had short, yellow hair and muscular arms, wearing a vest that showcased his bulging muscles.

“Are you sure that woman is really dead?” He spoke fluent English.

Xiang Xichen’s expression was grim. “We are certain.”

Barrett sneered, “You said that woman was powerful? So easily taken down, is that what you call ‘strong’?”

Xiang Xichen stared coldly at him, but Barrett arrogantly lifted his chin, standing before Xiang Xichen like an imposing wall that could suppress anyone through sheer force.

Xiang Xichen had no intention of getting into a fight with him. Both sides were still in a cooperative relationship, and they couldn’t afford to create conflicts. “Given the current situation, it’s highly likely that the body has been taken away.”

Barrett, towering like an iron tower, remained in place. “So you’re saying we made this trip for nothing?”

Xiang Xichen shrugged. It seemed they had indeed come here in vain. After all, the body was nowhere to be found.

Xiang Xichen got into the car, preparing to leave, but Barrett grabbed the door.

Exerting his strength, Xiang Xichen couldn’t match Barrett. “I’ll say it again, the body is gone.”

Barrett’s face contorted in anger. “I’m starting to suspect that you’re playing us.”

Xiang Xichen replied, “If you have any issues, talk to our captain. I can’t conjure up a body.”

Getting these people to lend a hand would undoubtedly come at a high cost. Half of the price was supposed to be Xu Shengfei’s body, which they planned to bring back for research. Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the body, so they might have to pay an additional price. Xiang Xichen didn’t have the authority to decide that.

Barrett glared at Xiang Xichen with an unfriendly gaze but ultimately gave up and followed Xiang Xichen back.

When Yin Chengrui and his team arrived in Li City, they were stunned by the scene before them—a massive wooden box.

“Wow, the base you set up outside is quite unique.” A red-haired man couldn’t help but whistle.

Yin Cheng knew there were many zombies on this side, and they couldn’t wait any longer, so he brought his team to take a look. Little did he expect it to turn out like this!

The entire building was sealed off with wooden walls!

There was no doubt that the person who could do something like this was Wen Qingling!

Yin Cheng harbored deep resentment toward them, but it didn’t matter. They wouldn’t stay triumphant for long because, indeed, they were powerful, but there were even stronger people than them.

He looked at Tao Shuang, who nodded in agreement. Tao Shuang threw an ice cone toward the wooden wall with a “thud” sound as it landed on the ground.

Inside Central City, Wen Qingling was driving with a cat biscuit on the car roof. Several people were on their way back to the Third District when Wen Qingling sensed the fluctuation of wood-based abilities.

The red-haired man looked at the fallen ice cone and burst into laughter. “Ha! Miss, what level is your ability?”

Tao Shuang coldly glanced at him, not responding.

The red-haired man didn’t know if she didn’t understand, so he called for a translator to relay his words.

Tao Shuang replied icily, “My ability and your concern have nothing to do with each other.”

The translator cautiously translated her words. The red-haired man sneered, “I wanted to tell you that if your level isn’t enough, don’t attempt things casually. You might easily expose your weakness.”

Tao Shuang listened to the translation and chuckled coldly. “You’re up then.”

They had all witnessed Wen Qingling’s strength, and he was undoubtedly powerful. But they weren’t sure who among them was stronger than the others.

Flames appeared in the palm of the red-haired man’s hand, and the fire surged, condensing into a flaming greatsword in the air. The scorching temperature pushed back the people around him, and with a cheerful laugh, he swung the fiery blade at the wooden wall, causing a spray of flames.

The smile on the red-haired man’s face gradually froze as he looked at the smooth wooden wall, which only bore a black mark from the fire, showing no signs of damage.

He widened his eyes in disbelief, “How is this possible? I’m a C-grade fire-based ability user!”

Tao Shuang couldn’t help but mockingly respond, “Are you a bit too confident in yourself?”

The red-haired man gave her a cold glare and turned to Yin Cheng, asking, “Who made this wooden wall? What level are they?”

Since the apocalypse, the strongest ability users were those who had complete mastery over their abilities, reaching the B-grade level. They were considered the most powerful ability users to have appeared thus far.

The red-haired man’s ability level had already reached C-grade, just one level below, so there shouldn’t be such a huge difference!

A beautiful woman with golden hair stepped forward and examined the burnt mark on the wooden wall. With her emerald green eyes, she looked at Yin Cheng and asked, “Is the person who made this wooden wall the one your boss wanted to deal with?”

Yin Cheng, seeing their cautiousness, grew more doubtful. “Yes, I’ve already said that he is strong.”

The woman with golden hair looked at Yin Cheng for a long time before saying, “It seems that the strong people in Hua Country are not weak. This news should be immediately relayed to our boss.”

At present, the ability to fully control esper powers was a sign of being a top-tier powerhouse, that is, B-grade. Since they had been staying in Central City for a while, they had a good understanding of the situation there. C-grade ability were scarce, and B-grade ability were even rarer. The most recent B-grade esper they had heard of was someone named Lin Wenjie, who was in the Mentalist category. They thought her B-grade mental powers would make her a formidable presence, but she died surprisingly quickly.

These foreign mercenaries had a new definition of “strong” when it came to the “powerful” people in Hua Country. It was for this reason that they were hired by the First District.

Yin Cheng asked, “Miss Jasmine, are the zombies inside still alive?”

Jasmine, also an ability in the Mentalist category, had already scanned the situation inside with her mental powers. “They are alive, but they can only stay inside.”

As long as they couldn’t break through the wooden wall, those zombies were useless, whether dead or alive.

Yin Cheng was unwilling. Inside, there were at least several hundred zombies. If they were released, they could definitely create more chaos in Central City. This was the time when they were needed the most, yet they were trapped inside this damn wooden wall.

Yin Cheng suggested, “Can’t we use violence to break it?”

Both Jasmine and the red-haired man looked at him with strange expressions. “Colonel Yin seems to lack common sense. The premise of using violence to break something is that you must surpass the other person’s level. If you can’t, then don’t waste your efforts. Go back and help the boss beat people up and kill the person who made the wooden wall. The wall will naturally break.”

With no other options, the group had to return to Central City.

Central City was in its most chaotic state, filled with sounds of fighting and corpses scattered everywhere.

Wen Qingling’s car, driven by a shaken Luo Fengjue, was not smooth at all. It wasn’t that he was hitting people, but rather, he was constantly being hit by others. The speed was so slow that it was almost crawling. Although he didn’t do anything, the car was stained with blood.

After the umpteenth time, when another person was pinned to the car hood by a zombie and being devoured, Wen Qingling finally lost his temper. “Luo Fengjue, come drive!”

Before Luo Fengjue could react, Wen Qingling had already jumped out of the car. The car was still slowly crawling, and Lo Fengjue was startled and quickly crawled over, sitting in the driver’s seat.

Wen Qingling killed the zombie that was devouring the person. The injured person covered their wound and pleaded for help. Wen Qingling coldly gave them a quick death.

If someone was bitten by a zombie, they would only turn into a more inferior zombie slave. There was no cure, only a mercy killing.

Wen Qingling and Da Bai squeezed onto the roof of the car, with the cat biscuit holding onto the roof tightly to avoid being squeezed off. Wen Qingling intended to ride back to the Third District like this. Whoever dared to crash into his car would be stabbed to death.

In the dark night, a sudden burst of white light illuminated everything, dazzling the eyes. Wen Qingling squinted and looked in a certain direction. After the white light, darkness followed, and the sounds of fighting continued.

Wen Qingling extended his spiritual power and saw the source of the white light. It was a woman with short hair, who raised her hand and made a gesture in the air. A sparkling golden shield appeared in front of her, blocking the dense swarm of flying zombies.

Seeing this, Wen Qingling was instantly stunned. Those black dots were actually a group of flying corpse insects!

Wen Qingling had a panic attack right then and there. His arachnophobia couldn’t be cured. He banged on the car roof, “Run!”

Luo Fengjue was flustered, “Look at all the corpses along the way, how can we run?”

Before they could escape, the woman being chased by the group of corpse insects rushed over.

Wen Qingling: “Hold onto your hatred and don’t harm the innocent!”

The woman, who was running while fending off attacks, paused and turned to see Wen Qingling and Da Bai on the roof of the car. Without hesitation, she rushed towards them.

Innocent bystanders: “…”

Wen Qingling stomped on the roof, nearly breaking through it. “Run!”

Luo Fengjue was startled. He stepped on the accelerator, causing the car to jerk forward. Both Wen Qingling and Da Bai were thrown off the roof, and the car sputtered and stalled.

Wen Qingling: “…”

Luo Fengjue: “…”

Mi Yan: “…”

The woman ran past them, continuing forward. Wen Qingling and the others became a barrier between her and the flying corpse insects.

Luo Fengjue and Mi Yan, who didn’t understand the situation yet, turned their heads and were immediately disgusted by the swarm of insects outside.

Mi Yan panicked, “Close the windows, close the windows!” He realized he had no hands and could only use his feet to kick the seat, urging Luo Fengjue to hold on.

Luo Fengjue hurriedly started the car and closed the windows. He called out, “Wen Qingling, get in the car!”

Wen Qingling’s face turned dark. He patted Da Bai’s head. “Hide.”

Da Bai meowed and quickly jumped, squeezing its large body into a nearby shop, hiding itself.

Wen Qingling reached out his hand. “Come back!”

The fleeing woman was involuntarily thrown back. She was both shocked and angry, raising her hand to strike at Wen Qingling’s face. Wen Qingling blocked her attack with his hand. The woman held a dagger and acted decisively and ruthlessly.

Wen Qingling flicked his hand, throwing the woman into the swarm of corpse insects.

The woman screamed. A white light covered her body, enveloping her in a sphere of light. The densely packed corpse insects surrounded the sphere, attacking it. The light from the sphere quickly dimmed, and the woman shouted in fury, “I am Hua Fei from the Fourth District! How dare you plot against me?!”

Wen Qingling calmly said, “I am teaching you to have a little more compassion.”

Hua Fei was almost infuriated. To hell with your compassion! I’m about to lose my life, and you talk about compassion!

The target of these corpse insects was Hua Fei, so they continued to surround her. She was trapped and had no time to deal with others.

Wen Qingling said, “Da Bai, let’s go.”

Da Bai came out and swiftly jumped onto the roof of the car, spreading its limbs and turning into a cat biscuit, completely occupying the entire roof and leaving no space for Wen Qingling.

Wen Qingling: “…”

Retaliation came unexpectedly.

It’s not my fault that you fell down. The person you’re looking for is the driver. I’m also a victim…

“Bang!”

“Meow!”

Da Bai let out a miserable cry and fell from the roof.

Wen Qingling’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly checked on Da Bai. Fresh red blood gushed out from Da Bai’s neck, quickly staining its beautiful fur.

A green energy sphere appeared in Wen Qingling’s hand, pressing it against Da Bai’s wound.

“Da Bai!” Mi Yan and Luo Fengjue quickly got out of the car.

Wen Qingling suddenly looked up. “Don’t come down!”

But it was already too late. The sphere of light violently collided with the off-road vehicle, causing a hornet’s nest to stir up. All the flying corpse insects instantly went berserk, attacking everyone present!

Mi Yan, Luo Fengjue, and Da Bai couldn’t escape and were all attacked. Da Bai was relatively fine, with its thick fur providing protection, but Mi Yan and Luo Fengjue were in a terrible situation, crying out in pain as they were stung. Even Wen Qingling himself was surrounded by these low-level corpse insects, and their poisonous stingers pierced his body.

A terrifying pressure poured out, like a passing storm. All the nearby corpse insects, both human and undead, were overwhelmed by the oppressive aura and plunged into deep fear.

Hua Fei’s light sphere shattered. Before she could catch her breath, her body uncontrollably flew towards the terrifying center. In an instant, she reached the horrifying epicenter, being crushed to the point where she couldn’t breathe, her chest feeling suffocated. She felt like her bones were about to break.

Wen Qingling held her in his hand, gritting his teeth. “If you dare to kill me, the entire Fourth District won’t let you go!”

Wen Qingling said, “Your reliance is about to be destroyed.”

Holding Hua Fei, Wen Qingling vanished into the night.
