I Have Decided to Go Look for My Father

Chapter 233: The difference in the words was very minor but Gu Shao picked it up anyway. (2)

Having said that, he noticed Gu Xi and his eyes lit up.

“This is your daughter?” asked Sheng Yi.

Sheng Yi had been back for two days and had found out both from his father and Old Mr. Shen that Gu Shao had a daughter. He was quite surprised at the time when he found out.

It looked like she really was Gu Shao’s daughter for sure.

Gu Shao nodded. “Gu Xi, my daughter.”

After the introduction, Gu Xi said politely to Sheng Ye, “Hi, Uncle Sheng.”

Hearing that Gu Xi was greeting him, Sheng Yi nodded and said, “Good girl.”

Perhaps because he had spent too much time at the military, Sheng Yi always had a solemn look on him. He looked strict and almost somewhat mean.

It was meant to be a complement but with Sheng Yi’s stern look, it just sounded very odd.

In addition, Sheng Yi was better off not smiling. When he tried to put a smile on himself, he looked all the scarier.

Gu Xi was a little scared and she reflexively scooted closer to Gu Shao.

Gu Shao felt her getting closer to him and thought that she was just being shy. He patted her on her head and didn’t think much of it.

Had Gu Shao knew what was going through her head and her assessment of Sheng Yi, he would probably bust out laughing.

Sheng Yi had always been a “goofball”. Even after being in the military for years and had become “expressionless”, that did not change his goofball nature.

Gu Shao chitchatted a little more with Sheng Yi before they entered the class when the start time of the parent-teacher conference got closer.

***

The parent-teacher conference began.

The parents seated themselves at their children’s spots and most of the students went over to do whatever they like on the playground.

A portion, however, chose to stay behind.

And Dong Mingming and Gu Xi were two of them.

The two clung onto the side of the door and carefully peeked inside.

Looking at the nervousness on Dong Mingming’s face, Gu Xi poked her on her arm and asked, “What are you looking at?”

“At my dad’s look, of course,” said Dong Mingming solemnly while staring at the change of Daddy Dong’s look when he received her test papers and her grades.

Her ranking didn’t change much from before, but her overall score had gone down.

She was going to say that the examinations were more difficult this time and it was only normal to score lower.

Lo and behold, Gu Xi and Sheng Xiuyan had raised the bar hella high……

“You can tell from looking?” said Gu Xi, surprised.

“Of course!” Dong Mingming carefully pointed at Daddy Dong, who was sitting at her spot, as she talked and said to Gu Xi, “Look, look. My dad looks relaxed now, right? That means he is feeling okay.”

As soon as she had finished saying that, they saw Daddy Dong flipped over to another examination paper and then he frowned.

Dong Mingming became nervous. She tugged at Gu Xi and said, “Did you see that? You saw that, right? My dad frowned and narrowed his eyes. He’s unhappy now.

“Oh my gosh! He just adjusted his glasses. He must be thinking about how much of my pocket money he is going to dock!”

After Dong Mingming had finished howling, she suddenly turned to look at Gu Xi. “Wait, no. It made sense that I am nervous. You took #1 spot, Gu Xi. What are you so nervous about?”

All the ones who did well and were not nervous had already gone to the playground for some fun. Only the ones who didn’t do well and were worried about getting a beating stayed behind.

“I’m not nervous,” said Gu Xi. She merely wanted to see someone there at the parent-teacher conference for her was all.

“I’m just looking,” said Gu Xi as she looked, once again, at Gu Shao sitting in her spot and a smile appeared on her uncontrollably – finally there was someone at her spot for her and she didn’t need to sit there herself anymore.
