I Became A Starter Beast

Chapter 1: Strange Cat

They say that life can suddenly turn interesting.

Anyone would believe so if they found themselves in an inevitable death as they face the rushing truck in front of them.

Before I could even regret not deleting my web history, I was body slammed by that mechanical beast crafted by humans.

The pain only registered in my mind after I soared in the sky and landed back on the asphalt.

If you calculate, the amount of force was enough for me to die in a matter of seconds. There's no point of even calling an ambulance with that.

That's how I, a 24 years old bachelor, died.

... Or rather that's how the human me died.

I was reincarnated! The legendary truck-kun really exists!

I was reborn in a body of a cat!

But, a cat... huh.

They're cute, adorable, free spirit, and haughty bunch, but man—

Why cat!?

If you're tired of humans atleast make me a dragon, truck-kun!

How would I wield my sword freely like this!?

How would I defeat the demon lord and save the world like this!?

My status! My harem! My power!

This heart wrenching pain, is this the outcome of seeing your dreams and fantasy crumble in front of you?

This feeling is enough to make an overwork salary man to feel more depressed than he already was...

Huh, is it raining? But, when I first opened my eyes there's a ceiling though.

Don't tell me I was born in a struggling family that barely get on in life? How unlucky can I be?

Damn, the rain just won't stop.

Inside the dim, yet comfortable facility.

A woman in what seemed to be a nurse coat was looking through a tinted glass window.

She was checking the dark furred cat and her kittens cozily snuggling in their man-made nest.

There is a clear love in her gaze, but somehow her brows tells anyone that she's worried about something.

“Grace.”

A man sporting a casual clothes and curly blonde hair greeted her.

“Oh, Nathan. What brings you here?”

”I'm just checking on Micah.” he glanced through the tainted glass and smiled, “It looks like her kittening was a success.”

Grace lovingly smiled back, “Yes, it was surprisingly a smooth process.

“When I first saw Micah she was fighting Apollo for food, that's why at first I couldn't believed that she was knocked up by him, but now look at her being a dutiful mother that she is.”

Nathan almost choked in surprised by her use of words.

“Ahem, I was surprised too. She's a little tomboyish compared to other Witch Cats.

“Right, the boss' making me ask the number of her litter.”

She passed him the clipboard she been carrying since, which contains more detailed informations about the cats inside.

“Micah gave birth to seven kittens, all are healthy, but—” the smile in Grace's lips faded, and her frown became more pronounced.

Nathan's heart almost leapt when he saw that, and urged her to continue.

“But?”

“But, one of her kitten is... uhh... kind of strange?”

His worry died down a notch. He was thankful that it's not the whole litter that has a problem, but only one of them.

The possibility of that situation happening send shivers down his spine.

'No bonus would be the last thing to talk about if something like that happened.'

“So, what's his problem?”

Nathan gaze through the window and he immediately realized what she meant by strange.

A little far away from Micah and the rest of the litter was a kitten.

He was in a crouching position, like there's something invisible weighing heavily on his back, and he can be seen repeatedly slapping the soft floor with his right paw, seemingly venting his anger to the world.

Nathan was shocked, he pointed him and looked at Grace with a questioning gaze.

“I-Is that kitten crying?”

“Yes. At first the monitor room brush it off as it's normal for some kittens to cry, but after 30 minutes of him crying they started to worry.

“I went here to check if it's an allergy or infection, but there's nothing, he's just shedding tears and crying like—”

“—a man in despair.” Nathan cut her off.

His eyes glowed in sympathy as he looked at that furball's tiny figure.

“Uhh.”

'I'm gonna say 'like it's normal'.'

However, now that she looked closer Grace could understand Nathan's analogy.

The kitten had the look of those men she once turned down—what a sinful woman she is.

As the two observed the furling, they finally saw him stopped and then just slumped down the floor, before weakly laying down showing them his white furred tummy.

He was staring blankly at the dim ceiling, like a man that accepted his circumstances and finally gave up.

“What an odd kitten. Not only his fur different from his siblings, but he also acts too strange.” Grace said.

Unlike the dark gray litter that was savoring their mother's milk, this one's have two separate colors of black and white.

Black fur in the upper body, and white fur on his underbelly and mittens, looking like he's wearing a suit and gloves.

He sure looks cute, and anyone would surely want to keep him as a pet, but only if this world is ordinary.

“Do you already know his classification?" Nathan asked.

“We already started checking, I'll send you the documents once it came out, but it most likely the same with other black-white patterned.”

“I know. Still, it wouldn't hurt for another breakthrough.”

Lion's Den, it was the name of the company the two of them belong.

They're a big corporation that sells, researches, and breeds feline beast.

One of their recent endeavors is the Project Umbra, which seen a little success lately.

It's an ambitious project that aims to create a beast with the concealment of darkness and the swiftness of light.

“You're too hard worker Nathan. Aren't you busy enough after the results of the Alpha League?” Grace joked.

Nathan's smiling lips twitched, he walked here to take a breather, but he was mercilessly made to remember the pressure he wanted to forget.

As a Beast Breeder seeing his creations are getting attention, of course he would be thrilled, but the breeding prospects of the Shadow Caracals are still not a hundred percent perfect.

Micah's situation is frankly something to be celebrated about, as she gave birth to six of them, but Nathan knew that if she were unlucky, only one of the six would be considered a success.

Genetic diseases, low blood purity, low talent ratings.... There are tons of problems that he would rather not have.

Nathan sighed and gazed back at the window, looking at Micah and the litter, he whispered.

“I hope that one of you reached Champion Beast.”

Grace who was next to him smiled.

“If you wish like that might as well wish them to be a Mythic, no, a Divine Beast!”

“That's imposible.” he smiled.

Finally, after years and months, I feel passionate about writing a story again. Hopefully this time I could continue carrying this embers until the end of this. That's why please give this story a strict review or just comment something if you're interested, because I know being criticized is better than being ignored.
