Healing to Kill

Chapter 48 – Strange Li Sang, the one who leers

The so-called Holy City was actually just a larger, cleaner, and tidier village.

The only difference was that at the very center of this village stood a building known as the "Holy Palace."

This building was entirely white, resembling a small castle.

It stood in stark contrast to the surrounding low, earth-colored buildings.

You could see it from a great distance.

"So this is the Holy City..."

"That white Holy Palace up ahead looks just like any common building in Leaving Fire City."

After arriving at the Scarlet Flame Holy City, Qing Ying felt somewhat disappointed by the surroundings.

Originally, when Jiang Chen told her they were coming to the Scarlet Flame Holy Land and its Holy Palace, Qing Ying had been full of anticipation.

She thought it would be some extraordinary place.

But now that she saw it, it was just a slightly larger village.

Although the Holy Palace looked beautiful, made of some kind of white jade stone, it was nothing special compared to the many white jade buildings in Leaving Fire City.

"Not sure if we can even get into this Holy Palace."

Jiang Chen frowned slightly.

Based on past experiences, places like this were not easy to enter.

They approached the Holy Palace.

At the white arched gate stood two guards.

"This is the Holy Lord's residence. Unauthorized persons are not allowed to enter!"

As Jiang Chen expected, the guards stopped them at the gate.

"I'm here to see someone."

Jiang Chen said helplessly.

"Who are you looking for?"

The guard asked coldly.

"Li Sang."

Jiang Chen gave the name of his mission target.

"Miss Li Sang?"

Upon hearing this, the guards at the gate looked slightly surprised and exchanged glances.

"Please wait a moment."

One of the guards turned and walked into the archway.

Not long after, the guard returned, followed by a blonde girl in a white dress.

It was the person Jiang Chen was looking for, Li Sang.

With a warm smile on her face, she looked at Jiang Chen and his companions. "Who is looking for me?"

"Hello."

Jiang Chen took a step forward.

"What can I do for you?"

Li Sang asked, puzzled.

"I have a letter to deliver on behalf of someone."

As soon as Jiang Chen finished speaking, he noticed a barely perceptible look of surprise flash across Li Sang's face. "Come with me, the others are not allowed inside."

She then turned and walked into the Holy Palace.

Seeing Li Sang's expression, Jiang Chen felt a bit strange, as if she knew he was coming to deliver a letter.

"You guys wait for me outside."

Without thinking too much, Jiang Chen gave a quick instruction and followed her.

Soon, Jiang Chen entered the Holy Palace alone.

Led by Li Sang, they passed through the front hall and arrived at a secluded rear garden.

It was very quiet here, with no one else around.

"Give me the letter!"

Li Sang said urgently.

"It seems you know who sent you this letter?"

Jiang Chen handed over "Yi Ding's Envelope" from his backpack and casually probed.

Immediately, Li Sang's hand, which was receiving the letter, stiffened slightly but quickly returned to normal.

She opened the envelope and quickly scanned its contents.

Then, a cold smile appeared on her lips as she put the letter away. "Are you a friend of Yi Ding? Or just an adventurer delivering the letter?"

Hearing this, Jiang Chen raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised.

"Don't be surprised, just answer me." Li Sang said calmly.

"I'm an adventurer."

After a brief thought, Jiang Chen answered truthfully.

"I guessed right!"

Li Sang's lips curled up as she stared at Jiang Chen. "You adventurers from the outside world, no matter what you do, it's all for profit, with no distinction between right and wrong!"

"What do you mean?"

Jiang Chen frowned. What she said was not wrong.

If by adventurers she meant "players," then indeed, as long as there was a reward, players would take on any task.

"Since you're an adventurer, I happen to have a task for you."

Li Sang smiled.

Jiang Chen: "What task?"

"I want to commission you to kill Yi Ding!"

Li Sang said coldly, word by word. "Of course, I will reward you handsomely with gold coins!"

[Sudden Task: "Li Sang's Commission," kill the deserter "Yi Ding." Do you accept?]

[Note: This task conflicts with the mysterious class change task. If you kill "Yi Ding," the mysterious class change task will fail!]

"What... kill Yi Ding?!"

Jiang Chen was shocked.

If it weren't for the system's prompt, he might have accepted this task!

As Li Sang said, as long as there was a task and a reward, "adventurers" would take it on.

But...

Li Sang never expected that her task would conflict with Jiang Chen's mysterious class change task.

"What's wrong? Not enough reward?"

Seeing Jiang Chen hesitate, Li Sang asked curiously.

"No, I am willing to accept this task."

After a brief thought, Jiang Chen smiled and said, "It's just that I'm only a priest, I'm afraid I don't have the ability to kill Yi Ding."

Jiang Chen's meaning was clear: give me some benefits first!

"Can someone who crossed the Death Desert and came here from the outside world lack the ability?"

Li Sang mercilessly exposed Jiang Chen's lie. She sneered, "Don't worry, the reward will satisfy you once the task is completed!"

Wow... so smart?

These days, people really are not as simple as they used to be. Even NPCs are hard to fool!

Jiang Chen sighed inwardly and then slowly said, "Alright, I accept the task!"

"Thank you, brave adventurer!"

Li Sang said with a smile, but her words carried a hint of mockery.

Moreover, her eyes seemed to hold a trace of disdain.

[Task Accepted: "Li Sang's Commission."]

[Task Content: Kill "Yi Ding."]

[Task Reward: 1000 gold coins!]

[Note: This task conflicts with the mysterious class change task. If you kill "Yi Ding," the mysterious class change task will fail!]

"That's quite a reward!"

As Jiang Chen checked the task details in surprise, the system popped up another prompt:

[Task Completed: Deliver "Yi Ding's Envelope" to "Li Sang."]

[New Task Unlocked: Find a way to leave the Holy Palace and inform "Yi Ding" of what Li Sang said.]

Seeing this new task, Jiang Chen pondered.

"So, Li Sang wants to kill Yi Ding, and once I delivered the envelope, it was already set."

"And if I refuse Li Sang's commission, I will be in danger."

"Otherwise, the system wouldn't tell me to find a way to leave the Holy Palace."

"These are all part of the task."

"But since I accepted Li Sang's commission, the danger is naturally gone!"

Jiang Chen quickly thought it through, a smile appearing on his face. He said to Li Sang, "I will complete the task as soon as possible."

With that, he turned and left.

As he expected, there was no need to "find a way" to leave.

Jiang Chen walked out of the Holy Palace without any obstruction.

As for the task "Li Sang's Commission"?

Accepting it was one thing.

Completing it was another!

Outside the Holy Palace, Qing Ying, Tao Xiaoyao, and even Moonlit Dance, who was standing far away, were all waiting for him.

However, Jiang Chen frowned.

"Why are they like flies..."

He noticed several gazes secretly watching from the shadows.

"Can you stop spying, heroes?"

Jiang Chen looked around and said loudly.
