FAMILY ABOVE ALL: BATTLING AGAINST GODS

CHAPTER 214: RESURFACE OF THE GIANTS

Like every other day, the residents of Stark City continued with their day-to-day lives.

As a mid-sized city with considerable popularity, many merchants established their businesses within its safe walls.

The city was bustling today, with several carriages moving along the wide paved roads.

The occasional laughter and playful cries of children echoed in the surroundings as they ran across the streets, the adults shouting to restrain their movements to no avail.

Helpless, the adults could only shake their heads, and leave the kids to their play. It wasn't as if any carriage were moving fast, so the kids should be relatively safe.

As the kids ran across the streets, they patronized numerous stalls selling anything eatable. Each time they arrived at a stall, they would flash the vendor a cute face, causing the vendors to have no choice but to give out their treats freely. Not long after, the sounds of the kids giggling spread in every direction as they feast on the delicacies in their hands.

However, a resounding explosion soon drowned that heart-warming sound.

BOOM!

A shockwave spread out from the center of the city in every direction, blasting everything in its path into oblivion.

Before the giggles of the joyful kids could even end, their existence was sniffed out from the surface of the earth.

Like that, a five-kilometer diameter of pure destruction appeared within the city, turning about three-quarters of its structures and inhabitants into history.

Chaos descended into the other regions of the city that survived the explosion, as numerous buildings collapsed from the severe shaking of the earth, causing the death counts to escalate past a million.

“No! My child! Somebody, please save my son!” A woman covered in blood seemed to not notice her legs squashed by a massive rubble as large as a boulder, as she clawed towards a collapsed shop, her tears mixing with the red pool that had formed below her.

“Mummy!” A young girl wiped her tears, smearing blood across her face, as she gazed at a puddle of crushed flesh before her.

Numerous scenes played out throughout the city.

Parents lost their children.

Children, their parents.

Many lost their loved ones…

The once lively city quickly turned into a scene pulled out from an apocalyptic movie.

“W-what is that?”

Someone screamed as he pointed towards the ruin which was left of the center of the city.

No one had paid attention to what had caused the explosion, or why it had even happened in the first place.

They were just too lost, broken, and panicked, to keep their heads straight in this situation.

But at the call of this man, some of them couldn't help but turn their head in the direction of the main area of destruction.

From the very center of the city, they could see a massive dark throne whose edges were covered in crimson lines soar from the ground and into the sky. The throne emitted such an intense evil aura that made the hearts of the onlookers feel suffocated.

And sitting atop this eerie throne was a man who despite sitting at the moment appeared to be 40m tall.

The intense feeling of dread spreading through the bodies of the onlookers soon gave way to shock as they stared at this immense figure.

'A giant?'

Despite it being their first time seeing such a figure, everyone was sure the figure above them was a giant.

'How's a giant here?'

The minds of these people who saw their worlds shatter before them, blanked out.

The Giants were a race from legends. It was once rumored that the mighty and formidable Asuras were actually descendants of the giant race. As for the credibility of such a piece of information, nobody knew, as there had never even been a sighting of giants before. In fact, there was no record of their existence in the history books.

Besides, no one dared to question the background of the Ancestor of the Asura race, a being who had lived for several millennia and stood at the very peak of the galaxy.

Yet, such a figure from the legends seemed to have appeared before them.

In a not too remarkable city, within one of the thousands of lower worlds, ruled by a middle world, among hundreds of other star fields.

How could they not be stunned senseless?

.....

A long crack appeared beneath the throne floating high in the air. As the space crack widened as if stretched by two invisible hands, the injured residents were awoken by the sight of many figures walking out from its confines.

An army of undead skeletons soon emerged from the space crack.

“AH!”

It wasn't clear who screamed first, but it seemed to serve as a spark that started a chained reaction.

The people were scared out of their minds, and without even caring about grieving for their lost ones, they ran in the opposite direction, in pursuit of a feeling of safety.

A cruel scene soon unfolded.

Overwhelmed by fear, people rammed into each other as they ran towards the fallen city walls. Even as they trampled on their fellow humans, without care for if they were even an acquaintance, their steps didn't falter for a moment as they hurried away for their lives.

At the heart of the city, the mighty figure on the colossal throne seemed indifferent to the reaction of the surviving residents. He looked below him to see the last of his army appear from the space crack.

Not only were there an uncountable number of undead skeletons but there were also thousands of humans and beasts exuding an evil aura. Among them, about ten appeared to look normal, but when his gaze fell on them, they flew into the skies simultaneously before stopping behind his throne.

As the crack finally healed from the laws of this world, the mighty giant commanded in a deep voice, his words spreading far into the distance and sending a chill down the spine of every ear that heard him.

“Kill!”

A wave of murderous intent filled the entire world, causing the fleeing residents to scream in terror.

The remaining city guards who manned the city gates and its other entrances quickly moved forward to offer a wall of protection.

The city guards failed to understand how the forces of evil had appeared within the city despite arduously screening the people entering its walls. Not to mention that the range of the earlier explosion just so happened to cover all the regions where teleportation formations had been constructed, essentially cutting them off from outside assistance.

Now that the situation had deteriorated to this state, they could only offer up their lives to atone for the million they failed to protect. Some of them even shouted a war cry as they charged to avenge their loved ones.

However, before they could even approach the army of corrupted, bone arrows flew into the skies and covered the region in total darkness, sending a feeling of helplessness and despair into the heart of the city guards who seemed to have charged into a vain death.
