Chapter 7 – Dragon-Horse Breathing Technique. Basic Meditation Book.

Two months later-

In a tournament venue outside the city walls-

Dang* Dang* Dang* Dang*

Two knights exchanged blows at a blinding speed, not yielding ground to the other.

"Who do you think would win, son?" A middle-aged king smiled and asked his son.

"Joffrey from the Flodsears Viscounty has a 10-stance Breathing Technique, so he should win, right?" A young prince replied.

"Having a better heritage does not blot out talent. Otherwise, why would I hand out a 14-stance technique?" The King smiled.

"Then-"

THUD*

"POINT!"

"Winner, Ewan of Knightledge!"

"Woo!" "Yeah!"

"Ewan!" "Ewan!" "Ewan!" "Ewan!" "Ewan!"

On the field, Ewan put away his sword and gave a friendly hand to his opponent.

"Good match, friend." Ewan raised his visor and said.

"Good match indeed. I never imagined anyone would best me, especially since this is the lesser nobility segment." Joffrey took Ewan's hand with a smile.

"Ewan of Knightledge wins the Lesser Nobility tournament. He shall receive the 14-stance Dragon-Horse Breathing Technique and 250 Gold Pieces!" The announcer declared.

A smile couldn't help but blossom for Ewan. The Breathing Technique would help improve his prospects and become a family legacy, and the money was always welcome. To a lowly knight, 250 Gold Coins was a significant sum.

The tournament continued to the higher nobility segment, but Ewan didn't participate.

.

.

Ewan received instructions on the Dragon Horse Breathing Technique for the next few days. Although texts existed, they passed such techniques by example, which was also why some Knight Houses fell when their head died in battle.

Having two Breathing Techniques didn't mean Ewan could get more stats immediately. His strength would stagnate for several years until he transitioned to the new Breathing Technique. But Ewan was okay with it.

While in the capital, Ewan also walked along the streets, curiosity thick in his eyes. There were shops, taverns, and even brothels(Although he stayed away from those), and more.

However, Ewan had a curious incident when he visited the market. Ewan stumbled upon a stall with an aged man missing an arm selling strange trinkets. It alone wasn't enough to sway Ewan, but Ewan happened to recognize the man.

"He was in the war! If I remember correctly- A 2nd-level Wizard Apprentice? I don't remember his name, though." Ewan thought.

A 1st-level Apprentice was close to an ordinary person, a 2nd-level Apprentice was comparable to an elite Yeoman, and a 3rd-level Apprentice was equivalent to a Knight. The 1st-level Wizard that led their army was like a Grand Knight. However, Wizards were worth several times more than their Knight counterparts due to their magic.

In particular, Ewan and this man were in the same platoon. Ewan thought he died with the others, but he luckily escaped.

"Since we served in the same war, I will help you a bit." Ewan thought and approached the stall.

"Hello, good Sir. What do you sell here?" Ewan approached and asked.

"Hah? Oh! Hello there." The man's eyes lit up when he saw Ewan, a noble-looking customer. "I sell Magical Items. I would never sell them otherwise but I fell to hard times."

"How much for all of it?" Ewan directly asked.

"150 Gold Coins and everything is yours." The man immediately said.

"150?" Ewan couldn't help but frown.

The trinkets the man sold were bland. There was an obsidian wand, a few stones, bottled liquids and ingredients, and two booklets.

"150 is too much? Then how about 120?" The man hesitated and lowered the price.

"... 100, and I will buy the lot," Ewan said his bottom line.

"Deal!" The man immediately said.

"Seems like I could have gotten it for cheaper." Ewan warily thought.

However, he considered it helping a fellow veteran, so he paid the money to the Wizard Apprentice, took the items, and left.

.

.

.

That evening-

Ewan ignored the other items and checked the two booklets.

The first was called a Basic Meditation Technique, and the other was Basic Earth Magic.

"Basic Meditation Technique? Is this how Wizards train?" Ewan frowned.

According to the description, the minimal requirement to practice it was 10 Intelligence and 8 Spirit. Upon learning the first level, one could become a 1st-level Wizard Apprentice. However, it was best to start training when young, although it is possible to train later in life. It is due to the nature of advancement to Wizard, requiring abundant vitality from the user.

Also, it requires that the user has a powerful connection to an element. The stronger the connection, the easier it is to draw Magic Particles during meditation.

"Isn't that what I got as an Advanced Farmer? Loved by the Earth?" Ewan raised an eyebrow.

[Loved by the Earth: Positively modifies Earth Affinity, ability to till and loosen the soil, and intuitive ability to improve soil quality.]

"If I got that Core Skill to lvl 10, my affinity to the Earth element should be high, right?" Ewan mused.

But then, he looked at his status. All three class slots were full, blocking him from becoming a Farmer OR Wizard.

"Forget it. In this life, I would remain a knight. But if I reincarnate again, I can try the path of the Wizard." Ewan decided.

.

.

Ewan returned to his territory in glory, marrying Raimis's daughter and siring many heirs while taking the mantle of Manor Lord.

He continued training in the Dragon-Horse Breathing Technique, eventually replacing his previous one, and quickly advanced. With his growing strength, he secured a diplomatic marriage with the Knightledge Barony and had one of his daughters marry the heir of the Knightledge family as his legal wife.

At the end of his life, Ewan was a Peak Knight, a step away from a Grand Knight, and peacefully died for the first time in his bed, accompanied by his successors.

.

.

.

Eight years later-

Knightledge Barony-

A handsome boy woke up, many memories flashing in his eyes.

"As expected. I reincarnated as my grandson again." Ewan warily thought.

Once again, he was named Ewan. This time, he was the 3rd son of the Knightledge Baron Household.

"Is my reincarnation deliberate? Or is it random?" Ewan idly wondered before checking his status.

Name: Ewan Knightledge
Sex: Male
Age: 7
Classes: Unselected.

Stats:

Strength: 6(9)
Physique: 6(9)
Agility: 6(9)
Intelligence: 7(10)
Spirit: 5(7)
Charisma: 6(8)

"Genius! This body is a genius!" Ewan ecstatically thought.

It was higher by 11 stat points than his previous life. It just shows that Knights are a different breed of people.

"Good. Then, in this life, how about I try becoming a Wizard?" Ewan thought as he started planning his future course of action.
