Celestial Peak

Chapter 99: Different way of thinking

Wang Ling found himself in an unfamiliar land. It was desolate and there was only sand as far as the eye could see. The Frost Domain was known for its never-ending sheet of ice that blankets the whole domain.

However, that famous and almost infamous sheet of white was nowhere to be found. Wang Ling looked around and found out that he was standing on top of a platform that had many ancient looking runes carved on its surface.

"I thought we were going to the Frost Domain? Then why the hell are we in the middle of a desert?" Bai Xue exclaimed as she jumped atop Wang Ling's head to survey the area, "Tch, the promised snow is nowhere to be found."

While Bai Xue was complaining, Wang Ling also looked around and after seeing that no one was around. He confirmed it with Bai Xue, "Is there anyone out there?" He asked cautiously.

"Nope, I don't think anyone out there, we're probably the only ones here. I can't see anyone nor can I feel anyone's presence."

Wang Ling nodded his head and unfurled his wings. Two pairs of feathery wings came out and he soared upwards and after confirming that no one was around in a few kilometer radii. Wang Ling flew as around as nothing good will come about in dallying in the hub he was transferred in.

While he was on the air flying around. Wang Ling's eyes caught sight of many things. Some beasts looked like centipedes going around jumping all over the place and devouring beasts.

There were not only centipede-like beasts but there were also other beasts that roamed the desolate desert. He was flying above and many beasts roared as they saw him flew pass them while others trembled as Wang Ling's aura swept through the area.

After looking around a couple, Wang Ling finally nodded his head and confirmed where he was. He stopped flying and landed on the sands as he said, "This is the [Desolate Domain] and we're in the border area of the [Black Desert] where the weaker spirit beasts lurk."

"So, does that have anything to do with Frost Domain? Or do you mean we near the border of the Frost Domain?"

"That's it. The Black Desert is a lawless land where death often comes swift. This place is littered with many lowlifes and spirit beasts that will kill anyone they think they can kill."

"If that is so, then why don't we just leave? I plan on taking a break in your place and mooching off your family to level up my cultivation. I don't plan on doing anything strenuous." Bai Xue was half-joking and half-serious.

Wang Ling sighed as he looked around. A look of dismay appeared on his face as he said, "I know where we are and here's the problem… I don't know where I should head to, the map I have in me is not for Black Desert's use."

Wang Ling was feeling a headache as he found it troublesome to be sent in a location that way off his original course. He has heard that such occurrences happen sometimes, but he didn't think it would happen to him.

Bai Xue was on top of his head jumped off and Wang Ling casually asked where she was going. She only replied with, "Just wait there, I'll come back in a few hours at best." And transformed into a Phoenix before flying away.

Wang Ling was baffled as to why she would leave all of a sudden. But it didn't seem that she was going to leave him entirely as she wanted him to wait. Wang Ling waited just like how he was instructed and chose to just sit and meditate.

But as he was waiting, there were spirit beasts that would try to take his life and eat him whole. However, Wang Ling just sniped them with his bow or split their body in half with his sword.

The area where he was currently in was the outer most area of the Black Desert. The outer areas of any place only have weaker prey. The stronger ones gather in the inner regions as they try to decide who was king.

Wang Ling was confident that he could kill anything that tries to get in his way. Although he was a mere middle-level-2 nascent soul cultivator. Wang Ling could kill any level-4 nascent soul beasts that tried to kill him.

There were only level-2 or 3 spirit beasts coming for him so there was no real danger. His continues killing resulted in many beasts cores being collected. But the blood and the corpse of the spirit beasts he had slew was starting to attract trouble in all eight directions.

Thankfully, Bai Xue returned before a wave of beasts could reach him. Bai Xue saw Wang Ling sitting on top of spirit beast corpses and hopped on top of his shoulders and said.

"Head East from here, and we will be able to see the bordering town of [Deserto Border Town] that is only a 500 kilometers away."

Wang Ling nodded his head and unfurled his wings and flew east before trouble could come. As he was flying away. He heard the fight that had broken out on the area where he had been staying in.

The skies weren't safe though as some avian-type beast would try and kill Wang Ling and Bai Xue if they were spotted. But Wang Ling and Bai Xue had no problem dealing with any enemy.

The two managed to kill a lot of beasts. Bai Xue would eat the beast cores and would raise the denseness of her qi which was extremely astonishing.

Wang Ling was doing the same as he was flying around. He could feel his cultivation rising but it wasn't so major that he could achieve a breakthrough right away. He had just broken through middle-level-2 nascent soul stage so it would be quite a long time before he can reach the next level.

While flying, Wang Ling asked Bai Xue how she knew of the border town.

"Even I didn't know where the border town was, how come you were able to learn of it?"

Bai Xue grinned as she answered, "Shishishi, spirit beasts are not just food you know. They too have a mind of their own and after looking around for an avian-type beast, I made use of my Phoenix form and pressure it to give me the answer I want to know."

Wang Ling was enlightened as he nodded his head in Bai Xue's idea. Although spirit beasts in the wild were mostly savage and would kill to improve their strength. Some were intelligent and could communicate with the rest.

Bai Xue just made use of the advantage she had as a beast and her bloodlines to gain the information they needed. Her act of doing so was basically the same as an official trying to get what he wants out of a poor civilian.

Wang Ling also understood why Bai Xue had to move alone. The presence of humans was unneeded if Bai Xue wanted to act in a dignified manner. If a proud Phoenix was seen with a human, then its prestige would be lowered.

The Phoenix was the king of skies and it was higher than any feathery beasts, even if the Roc was taken into account. It will never serve anyone, and even if it did, the Phoenix would still have its arrogance with it.

Bai Xue didn't want to deal with the trouble of being looked down upon because of Wang Ling's presence. So, she moved alone.

Wang Ling flew and quickly reached the Deserto Border Town before the sun could set. He made sure to land before anyone could spot him and entered the city as a human.

After entering the city, Wang Ling noticed that there were many people and spirit beasts around the place. The city was large and the roads were even larger than the ones found in the main city of the Piercing Heaven Empire.

The spirit beasts here were also welcomed to roam around. People had no problem unless it was too large that it would clog the roads of the city.

Bai Xue was rather surprised to see spirit beasts and other races mingling with one another like it was normal. She had never been to many cities in the Heaven Realm and the ones she had entered mostly bans the presence of beasts.

"Before my era, beasts and the other races were in a situation where they would kill anyone if they spot one another. Humans, beastmen, and the elves see the spirit beasts as a source of nutrition and a kind of resources and the same goes for spirit beasts and how they see the other races.

"But as time went on, there came a time when a particular ancient empire let in every race enter his city. Spirit beasts, humans, elves, and beastmen mingled in his empire and many found that there were intelligent spirit beasts amongst the savage ones.

"From then on, the people of the Celestial Spirit Realm doesn't really care about the presence of spirit beasts inside their city if it can accommodate them. However, savage beasts were still looked down upon by the spirit beasts and the other races as they were beasts that do not have much of a mind."

Wang Ling saw her reaction and explained the situation as he laughed.

Bai Xue finally understood it about she had some questions, of her own, "But inviting spirit beasts to roam your cities isn't safe right? What if the spirit beasts you invite in kill other people?"

Wang Ling shrugged his shoulders as he answered, "Then we kill it, the City Lord of every town or any big city is the one who overlooks the safety of everyone in his city. So, he is the one that has to enforce the law. Why do you think City Lords are so strong, to begin with? It is to enforce the law.

"I know what you're thinking, "Did the change came so fast?", and to answer that, the answer is going to be no. The change didn't happen so fast, and even the historians of my time didn't know when the system of spirit beasts and other races came about but by the time the previous era came, everything was already in a state where the races were somewhat at peace."

Bai Xue had nothing more she wanted to ask. The cultivation work was fraught with dangers. But there are times when it wasn't all that bad. Killing is never going to stop between spirit beasts and the other races, but humans kill each other and they still live closely together.

So why can't spirit beasts live together with humans and the other races?
