American Comics: The Mighty Superman, Starting From Gwen Spider

Chapter Nineteen: The Masked Vigilante

Just as Ben Parker, who had just gotten out of bed, walked into the living room, he saw Peter walking in from outside wearing a jacket, causing him to be taken aback.

A few seconds later, Uncle Ben finally reacted, "Child, what were you doing?"

"I went out for a morning run, Uncle Ben. I've been exercising during this time." Peter pretended to wipe the nonexistent sweat off his forehead.

He said he went out for a morning run... but Peter was actually sunbathing on the rooftop of the apartment building.

Uncle Ben was stunned for two seconds before nodding softly, "Hmm, it's good that Peter is making changes, but remember to take it step by step."

"Yes, definitely. I know exactly what I'm doing, Uncle Ben."

"Get ready and come have breakfast. We can't keep Gwen waiting today, can we?" Ben thought of the photos of Gwen on Peter's computer desktop and couldn't help but smile.

"Maybe I should be a bit more proactive occasionally?"

"Young people should have some drive."

Peter always felt that there was something strange about Uncle Ben's words, but he still nodded in agreement.

Aunt May quickly prepared breakfast after getting up.

After finishing breakfast, Peter grabbed his backpack and arrived at Gwen's doorstep.

He lightly knocked on the door, and before long, the door was pulled open.

"Hey, Gwen, good morning."

"Peter? I didn't expect you to be the one waiting for me today."

"Hasn't it always been like this before?" Peter glanced inside the house and asked curiously, "Did Uncle George go to work so early?"

"No, Dad is waiting for us downstairs." Gwen shook her backpack, "I was just about to come and get you."

"Well, that's good. It's been a whole summer since I last rode in Uncle George's car."

"Do you miss it?" Gwen leaned closer, her face filled with a kind smile, "Hey, Peter~ I sent you several messages last night, but you didn't reply. You went to bed really early yesterday."

Peter looked at Gwen, shrugged, and said, "I was tired after exercising and fell asleep without realizing it."

"In light of your diligent efforts to change yourself, I won't hold it against you." Gwen reached out and closed the door, following Peter into the elevator.

"Peter, have you seen the news this morning?"

"The news? No, not yet. What's going on?" Peter asked in return.

"It's just my one-sided account. You definitely won't believe it!" Gwen took out her phone from her pocket and searched for the news that had been pushed by various social media apps today.

"Take a look!"

Peter took the phone handed to him by Gwen and read the news article displayed on the screen.

After a moment, Peter pretended to be surprised and said, "Superman? The famous Superman from the DC comics appeared last night? Gwen, are you joking?"

"Seriously, this... feels unreal at all."

"Who says it's not? The news report mentioned that Superman does indeed exist..."

"Huh?" Peter looked at Gwen in astonishment. "What do you mean?"

"Oh, well... I mean, last night I saw Superman with my own eyes. He flew past the window from the sky at an incredible speed."

"Really? I was at home at that time. What a pity, I didn't get to see it with my own eyes!" Peter returned the phone to Gwen with a regretful expression and continued, "I saw in the news report that there was even a video of Spider-Woman talking to Superman..."

"I think Superman and Spider-Woman might know each other."

"Hey! Peter, why would you think that?" Gwen, not sure what came to her mind, quickly clarified, "In the short video attached to the news, you can clearly hear Spider-Woman's voice. Her words indicate that she didn't know about Superman's existence either!"

"Gwen, why do I feel like you know a lot about Spider-Woman?"

Gwen's heart skipped a beat.

Fortunately, Peter seemed to have said it casually, so Gwen forced a smile and waved her hand, "Actually, I don't know anything at all! It's just because you said yesterday that you admire Spider-Woman, so I looked up some reports about her."

"I see." Peter said with a smile, "Isn't Spider-Woman cool?"

"I think she's alright..." Gwen lowered her head, her cheeks turning red.

As they chatted, the two of them walked out of the elevator.

George Stacy had been waiting by the roadside for a while.

Wearing a police uniform, George saw Peter and Gwen walking side by side and raised his hands to wipe the fatigue off his face, forcing a smile as he greeted them, "Hey, Peter, good morning."

"Good morning, Uncle George." Peter noticed that George didn't seem to be in good spirits and couldn't help but ask, "Did you not get enough rest last night, Uncle George?"

"I had some things to take care of last night." George clearly didn't want to talk about work in front of the two kids, so he changed the subject and asked, "You guys seemed to be having a fun conversation just now. What interesting topic were you discussing?"

George opened the car door and sat in the driver's seat, looking at the two people sitting in the back seat through the rearview mirror.

"We were talking about the news this morning! We were discussing Spider-Woman... um." Peter hadn't finished his sentence when Gwen's soft hand covered his mouth.

"Spider-Woman? The masked vigilante?" George frowned.
